Does anyone know if there is a planer mast/system made that uses the front platform's seat base as the base for the planer system? The last thing I want to do is add one more mounting bracket to my boat.

The boat is a 2006 18' Pro V. I know the seat bases vary from year to year. I just want to see what my option are. Thanks!

I bought an adaptor for my Big Jon planer mast that snap's right into the pedestal seat mount on my Lund Fisherman. I ended up mounting the bracket that it came with on the front of my boat anyway. When using the seat mount the mast wasn't high enough or far enough forward, and the planer lines were running right next to the boat and getting tangled with my rod's. Once I moved the mast to the front I haven't had any problem's.

I had the same setup as Matt V and I had the same problems. I also had a problem with the plastic wedge mount separating from the metal sleeve and the mast nearly hit me in the face when it came loose. Fortunately for me I was reaching out to crank in the boards and the mast hit me square in the palm of the hand and I caught it! I mounted it on the bow like matt and I'm happy with it there.

You should mount your mast as high as possible. Also as far forward if
you dont you will lose your line height out to the boards. You need a
backing plate underneath your mast base in the bow. I also guy wire
my mast to the bow. Get a set of wood boards or make them.

Thanks for all the info.

Any recommendation on the boards to run?

I too had the same problem using the seat base adapter. I Called and got a flat plate adapter to replace the seat adapter..

I have my trolling motor mounted on a sliding removable plate ( Cabelas). I mounted my Big Jon 6' mast to an 'extra' sliding plate. When I want to go on Lake Erie to troll, I slide my trolling motor off, slide my planer mast on. It's great.

Concerning boards themselves, I originally had the yellow Dual "Riviera" boards that you see in the Cabelas catalog. They collapse super, they highly visable, they're fairly inexpensive, but they dont pull worth a crap. I sold them because they do plane well out to the side when deployed, but once you start running deep divers or Jets off them they drag behind the boat because they don't have the "pull" to offset the jets/cranks. If you gave me a set for free, I still wouldn't use them.

I have used and still have the dual "Prince Mastercraft" boards. They work pretty well. Unfortunetly they're not made anymore.

I now use the redwood boards from Amish outfitters http://www.amishoutfitters.com/planer.htm
They are the best. Lightweight(redwood), plane waaaaaaay out there, and pull like the dickens. Running deep divers, 20,30,40 Jets doesnt faze them one bit. Only negative is they don't collapse like the other ones mentioned. Not a big deal. Amishoutfitters now has two additional new boards that pull even harder....oh my.

Do a search on "planer boards" and you'll get a lot of good info.

Good luck,
