Looking at buying chip for fishing to use in my lowrance handheld. I hear good things about Lakemaps and I do fish mostly MN and SD. I don't see any maps though for most of the SD lakes I fish on (ie Waubay Lake area) with the Lakemaps but I do see most of them on the Navionics chip. Is there that big a difference between them? Does Lakemaps have chips that cover the SD Waubay lakes? I don't really want to buy 2 different chips if possible. Any help appreciated.

It's pretty tough to beat the value in the Navionics Premium HotMaps. Multiple states, thousands of lakes, and a trade-in program make it an easy choice. The chip you want is the Premium HotMaps NORTH edition. Jim Carroll NPAA #13

The inability to zoom down closer than .5 miles on a Navionics chip has always been a show stopper for me. I have been very happy with the Lakemaster chip.

My old cave man early model (no mapping) GPS even zooms down to .2 miles. I got used to that so anything less feels like I am not seeing enough detail close up.

Zoom range is also dependent on the unit and it's software, not just the mapping chip. Mine (Lowrance/Navionics) zooms into 1/63rd of a mile.

I think zooming in is more a function of your particular GPS unit than the map chip. I've been using a Navionics Hot Maps "East" chip in a Raymarine C-80 and I can easily zoom to 1/32 of a mile. Whereas my brother can get no closer than 1/8 of a mile on his Lowrance 3500C using the "East" chip.

I have heard that Lakemaps is surveying some NE SD lakes this year, not sure which ones.
