This unit Is the same as the Lowrance 1600... I called the factory about it before purchasing to get the scoop on these units..After they confirmed that they ARE the same units i purchased one from Jeff at Reed's sporting goods...price was too good to pass up. Thanks Jeff!!!
I have had one for a couple of years and love it. It is a battey hog - so use aux power to keep it powered up.
In most cases, I use the cap for the bottom of the unit, and use a ram mount to mount it on the boat.
I have also picked up 2-4 meg mapping cartridges, and the cd mapping software as well as the stree maps software -- wonderful.
This software also includes the upload / download cable and computer connections.
I just finished backing up the data on my unit to the pc -- for my fishing trip next week. If I do have some type of problem all the waypoints and icons are safely backed up on the pc. The total backup of all the icons and waypoints took about 2 minutes.
Then I clicked the print button and printed out a hard copy for backup as well. Quick and easy.
p.s.
If you run the boat at night - the electroluminiscent lighting on the screen is excellent and very visable at night.
Take care

Doc,,
how did you turn out at the Platte Chamber tourney. Never got to talk to you after Friday night.
What is a reasonable price to pay for this GPS?
I have had an Accumap for 3 years now and I love it. Would like a "boat" model but I use it all the time in my truck too. It is a battery hog. I took a cigarette lighter adapter and cut the lighter end off and put on spade connectors and I hook it up to my Vexilar battery. Lets me use it anywhere I don't have power. I still use the cigarette lighter adapter in my boat and truck. Get the software from eagle to download to PC. Its only $20 and the first time all of your waypoints are gone it will more than pay for itself. I've lost mine twice. Once I ruined my antenna and had it sent in to Eagle and they updated everything. Other than the serial# it was a new unit; antenna, software, keypad, port covers, map cartridge cover. But no waypoints. Actually after I had sent it in I called asking about my waypoints and they told me I should have a hard copy. I asked if they could print one off for me. I got a hard copy, HANDWRITTEN, 150 waypoints! The other time I have no idea what happened, I looked over at my GPS and it was in Oklahoma while I was in Ontario. Had to enter all my waypoints both times by hand. 8 hours each time. I still have to get some blank mapping cartridges and the CD. But now its all backed up on my PC. You can down and upload. The unit and software is really a powerfull tool. I don't have any experience with other units but I would highly recomend it.
