There was a discussion not too long ago regarding the best blade baits (it's in the archives now - things sure get archived quick these days). Anyway, there was no mention of the Luhr Jensen Ripple Tail. A lot of guys were suggesting Zip and Krazy blades but I can't get them out here in Washington.

I was just wondering if anybody likes the Ripple Tail? I've only caught smallmouth on them so far but hope to catch some walleye this year on them. I like the rattle that they have in the heavier models. They are kind of expensive though.

Has anyone fished a Ripple Tail and a Zip Blade to be able to compare the two?

Zip lures are available in 5 different sizes, and I think they have 14 or 15 different colors now. These baits can be purchesed at mills fleet farm, cabela's, gander mountain, and many other bait shops around the country. BUT.
If you cant get these baits in your part of the country
you can go to www.bitzercreek.com
This is the company that makes Zip lures.

I live on the Columbia River, and I usually fish the John Day pool,I have used the Ripple Tail and caught fish on them, but I preffer a Silver Buddy, because the action is not as radical as on the Ripple Tail, what I mean by that is, when you are pulling up off the bottom in approx. 1ft. lifts, the ripple tail seems to have a more intense (wider-I believe) wobble than a silver buddy-However,sometimes that is what the fish want, usually in quite cold water, but most of the time I would rather use a silver buddy, I just like it's feel better. Try them both using Fireline and you will see what I mean.
