The rod I really like is not on your list of two. I like to use the combination of the Scheel's 10'6" trolling rod for the outside lines and the stubby 5' rods for my inside lines. If you were in Minnesota and restricted to one rod per person, I would use the 10'6" rods to cover more water. Also, I like to use the 10'6" trolling rod when long line trolling timber because of the added control you get from the long rod rather than a planer board. I just take off my Daiwa 47's and put on my 27's. If you don't have a Scheel's store close, or if you don't want to have them ship you something, I have also heard of guys using Ugly Stick rods because they make a long 10' rod and also a stubby 5', Peregrine is making stubbies now, the 10'6" St. Croix Steelhead casting rod or any other brand Steelhead rod.
Just a thought.

4 BPS 8-6 rods here. I really like them for lead. I want 2 Scheel's stubbies though....

depending on amount of lead to be used - for a full core/Salmon set up, you need a long rod. Too much 'banana' in the line, short rods take away your ability to catch up to a hard turning fish. A few cores with mono - the stretch will be in the line so a short rod works better.............."you fight the fish with the rod adn string, not the drag and your thumb on the line"!

Just an FYI, my local Scheels had the shorty rods on sale for $50. Might be worth a look if you're planning on picking some up!

I have the Taloras. However, I prefer the Talora Downrigger rod over the Lead Core rod. Go figure. The Lead Core rod is stiff. You could probably use it for a pool cue if you had to. The Downrigger rod is spongy. The Taloras are built like a tank. I have broken BPS stuff before.

I just picked up a couple of the Gary Roach Pro Series 9'6" Leadcore rods. These are telescoping rods and run $149 in Cabelas. Found them for $49 at Gander. They must have been mislabeled, and I could not resist at that price. Seem like real nice rods, but have not used them yet.
