I would like to get a GPS mapping unit and am wondering what would work best for me. I plan on using it for inland lakes in Northern MN. I'm considering the Garmins, since I was told they are more "user friendly"....than say Lowrance. I am not sure if I should get a hand-held, or a permanent type. Am looking at Garmin GPSmap 76, 176 or 162. I'm really in the dark here, and would appreciate any help.
Thanks
I started out with a handheld, an Eagle Explorer, and upgraded to a Garmin 162 because the larger screen on the fixed mounts is MUCH easier to see. As to the 162 vs 176, the screen on the 162 is larger but the 176 has higher resolution. In addition to the downloadable Mapsource CDs that the 162 uses, the 176 uses Garmin's Bluechart chips which is offshore info, wouldn't be of any advantage to where you fish. The 176 is more expensive, for my money I'd buy the 162, I'm real happy with mine.
