I was out fishing this morning with someone who had both a Vexilar Edge and a Lowrance sonar mounted side by side. I was totally blown away by how much better the Vexilar Edge was! Due to Lowrance dissatisfaction, my current Lowrance will be my last when it dies, but the Vexilar was so much better that I'm considering making a change before that. I'd appreciate if anyone with knowledge of this unit can let me know how well they like it. Thanks in advance.

One of the best units on the market for finding and marking fish.
Take care

Thanks, REW. I was totally blown away by how it showed changes in the bottom and separated fish from the bottom.

I have two edges color and black and white. They are in a class of their own. They aren't fancy easy to use and not alot of gimmics. You will not be disapointed. They will make you a better fisherman

Harve,

I had the black & white Vexilar Edge and raved about it to everyone. When I went to update with a color unit, I didn't get a response from Vexilar about their new Edge color unit. I emailed the company twice, nothing! As a result I went to a digital color unit. Boy what a mistake!!! I want my Vexilar back.

I decided to wait until next May to order so I would have 2 full years of warranty (I fish May to November). Then I thought "But what if I drive over a Minnesota bridge between now and then." I decided to get one as soon as I could, but word seems to have spread and nobody in my area has one left on the shelf. Jeff is supposed to have one in "a couple of days," and the rigger is standing ready, so I am hoping for the best.

Call Vexilar and see if they have any open box or refurbs for sale.

sorry I know this isn't the swap board -

but I've got a color Edge I'd sell after mid-October...

yeah, check out vexilar direct and see if they have any refurbs for sale, just make sure that the warranty is the same as a normal off the shelf new one (which most of the time, at least for their flashers they are, not too sure about graphs). saves ya some dough.

I've had both the color and black and white, and both have performed superior to the competition. Marks great, even at high speeds, great warrany, and if you have any questions, their technical support is always on hand unlike that other company that puts you on hold for up to an hour. A buddy looked at one at Franks Great Outdoors in Michigan and after seeing the demo, he is looking at buying one and dumping his new Lowrance. Go for the Edge, you wont be disappointed!

I just got a Vexilar Edge and have been very pleased with it. I don't think I have even figured ouy everything it can do. So far great picture and much less clutter. I will post more after using it more. I only have a couple of trips on it.

I love my edge. It is too bad that they don't have a combo with

GPS.

I'm looking to upgrade my fish/depth finder, in the very near future and was looking at the Humminbird 997c SI - HD Side Imaging Sonar Combo.
I haven't really made up my mind yet, and this Vex unit sounds good. I already use Vexilar (since the FL8 first came out) for ice fishing and like the company's products, and customer relations.

PLEASE don't start any arguments on my behalf, I'm just trying to get honest answers from guys that have used these units in different depths of water before I spend allot of money (lol..."Again"... I already put aside money for a Simrad single cable auto-pilot for when their back on the shelves in November, my wife is thinking... :cookoo: :shame: :fishhit: , but it keeps me out on the water, and out of her way !!).

The most fishing I do is in 75+ feet of water (Eastern Lake Erie Walleyes) with a very flat bottom, but I also like to fish (troll) rocky reefs at night that are from 11 to 30 feet deep, with large boulders being the bottom structure.
I can see the advantage of both units on the reefs (I'm kinda favoring the Humminbird on the reefs, but am open to suggestions) but I don't know what advantage the Vex may give me. I'm thinking that the good separation that the unit has would help in deep water when you see the bottom totally covered with fish, but can't identify from bait, white bass, or walleye.
I just am having a hard time deciding which unit to get (Lowrance is not in the running). I really wish there was a site on the internet that compared depth finders, like ones I've found that compares just about every Car, Digital Camera, or Juice Blender on the market!
I did find this site on just the Humminbird...

Well, I've had it out five times and absolutely love it. To describe it in the lowest common denominator "You see what you want to see and don't see what you don't want to see." It's not cheap, but I'd gladly plunk down the money again.
