Can anyone please tell me whether the 1982 world record for a walleye (22lb 11oz) established at Greer's Ferry Arkansas in 1982 still stands, or has it been beaten?

I know the previous record of 25 pounds was recently removed as innacurate. The Canadian record is over 22 pounds ( Niagara River). But I don't know what fish ended up the record.

Last I heard, that Greers Ferry walleye is still the world record according to the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame. I haven't seen their 2002 record book yet, but that's what they listed in 2001. -- mark

WELL, NOW I FEEL BETTER KNOWING MY 13#15OZ. IS LESS THAN TEN POUNDS FROM A WORLD RECORD. AND SINCE SHE WAS CAUGHT IN THE DEAD OF WINTER AND HAD NO EGGS IN HER IM SURE I WOULD HAVE BEAT THE MINNESOTA RECORD TOO IF THAT GUY UP NORTH HADN'T CAUGHT HIS GIRL IN THE SPRING WHEN SHE WAS FULL OF EGGS. AT ANY RATE IT WAS A LIFETIME ACHEIVMENT FOR SURE!

This is the only respomse i have to the LEGEND,If you caught a 13 pound walleye it most certainly had it eggs 80 percont mature,or it was sterle. As walleye start developing thier egg sacks early tn the fall.
REspectfully yours,

AL NELSONS FISH OUT OF GREERS FERRY STILL HOLDS THE RECORD. IN RECENT POSTS THERE WAS A VERY HEALTHY DISCUSSION REGARDING THE WORLD RECORD WALLEYE AND GREERS FERRY. CHECK OUT THE ARCHIVES ON WC. IN MY OPINION AS STATED IN PREVIOUS POSTS MARBY HARPERS FISH DID NOT EVEN COME CLOSE TO 20 LBS. THIS POSITION WAS TAKEN AFTER HANDLING AND MEASURING MANY WALLEYE OVER TWENTY IN OUR TESTS AND CAREFULLY MEASURING MR. HARPERS HANDS AND THE FISH IN PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN AT THE TIME. Hate to burst your bubble here but walleyes have a ton of eggs in them by late winter. I have seen eggs in females as early as September possibly earlier.

The eggs mass is already developed by late fall and certainly present in a healthy female walleye by mid winter.

They do gain additional hydration and some mass as spawn nears. The eggs become engorge readying them to be more easily deposited.

Generally speaking in a healthy walleye the egg weight is the same in mid winter as it will be at the time of spawn in the spring.

My guess is that Anxious's walleye was full of eggs, and was delivered to the taxidermist ungutted.

An extremely large male? I wonder if size matters to a female walleye???????

Life is sure weird.........why aren't humans like fish. We are always after the fat females when fishing? Just a funny thought!

WELL,MY MEMORY MAY BE FOGGY ON THE AMOUNT OF EGGS,IF THERE WERE ANY.I WAS ONLY 12 YEARS OLD. I HOOKED THE FISH AND PULLED IT UP TO THE HOLE AND MY FATHER DID THE REST. HE RIPPED IT THROUGH A SIX INCH HOLE MADE BY AN OLD SWEDISH AUGER. ALL THE FINS WERE BROKE BUT VICTOR BRONTOS(SP)WHO HAD A TAXIDERMY SCHOOL NEXT TO MARV KOEPS IN NISSWA MOUNTED IT FOR US. IT SEEMS TO ME AS THE STORY GOES IT EITHER HAD NO EGGS OR RELATIVELY SMALL AMOUNT OF EGGS! THE REASON FOR THIS I DO NOT KNOW. BUT IT IS ON THE WALL. SOMEDAY I WILL FIND THE OLD PIC OF IT AND POST IT. OH YEA,AND C.J PLEASE GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE....13POUNDS 15 OUNCES!! IT WAS STILL THE CATCH OF A LIFETIME,NO DOUBT!! WE CAUGHT A LOT OF HUGE WALLEYES THAT YEAR. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO MENTION A FRIEND OF THE FAMILY WHO WAS ALWAYS THERE WITH US,GOOD WEATHER AND BAD,HE WAS A ##### OF A FISHIN BUDDY AND HE IS UP ABOVE WATCHIN US ALL FISH NOW. HIS NAME WAS"BOB BORN",THE CUSSINEST LITTLE OL FISHIN MAN I EVER HAD THE PLEASURE TO FISH WITH!! GOD BLESS YA BOB!!
