I am looking for some heavy duty socks. I have an 18ft. Ranger Fisherman, hull and motor around 1800lbs plus gear, and the 40 inchers I have now are not getting the job done.
I saw Lindy has a new model out.
What do you recommend?

I have the largest size Wave Tamer, I don't recall what the diameter is. It is fairly easy to use for such a huge bag, has been very durable, and I fish in what most folks would consider extreme wind.

Wave tamers are the best sock i have found they have a wire running around the mouth of them so they are really easy to run you pretty much throw them out and they will open them selfs up.. I have a 72" 60" 48" the 48 is perfect for back trolling and the 72" work good in even the strongest of winds.. I do beleive the even make an 84". I run an 1895 yarcraft storm with a pretty high profile and they have worked flawlessly for me.

Definitely Wave Tamers for me too, because they just work better than any other drift bag.
Here is a link to a good article online explaining how to choose the right size drift bag for your application.

Do the Wave Tamers include the Lindy floating chord? Are Lindy Pro Series better or the Wave Tamers? Also, would you go with one 72 or two 60's?

To let you know, there is no "Pro Series" of Drift Control drift socks by Lindy.
I believe that you really cannot go wrong with a 72 inch and a 60 inch Wave Tamer. This combination gives you the ability to put both out in heavy winds. 72 on the bow where some of the wind can catch it and the 60 on the transom. Or just the 72 by itself or the 60 by itself, again depending upon the wind. You have some flexibility with the 2 different sizes.
As for the harness buoy, the Wave Tamer does not need it as it has built in flotation already. All you need is a stout 3/8 inch nylon rope approx. 10 feet long.

I use the Amishoutfitter bags for drifting and trolling and have not found a tougher, long-lasting bag.

I do the same as Ted. I have a 72 and a 60 wave tamer. The floating harness isn't necessary with the tamers. I've had mine for four years now and they are still in good shape. Very good socks.

Ted,
Great getting an answer from the guy at the top! I mistakenly referred to the Magnum Series as the Pro Series. It sounds like the Wave Tamer socks are the way to go. Thanks for the input guys...much appreciated.

We use two 22 inch Amish Outfitter buggy bags as well... on My 621
very durable and makes a differance out on Lake Erie's "Finest Days"

I have decided to go with the Wave Tamers in the 60 and 72 inch. Who offers good pricing on the socks? Not finding them in many places on the net.
