I'm wondering if I'm going to be able to stay in the cone easiear by mounting a Vexilar puck to my trolling motor vs. hanging the ice ducer over the side of the boat.
The Vexilar technician told me yesterday, it's not made for open water, if I can see my jig I'm doing good.
I saw an article a while back in Walleye Insider about a guy called "Spoon Daddy Warner." He had his flasher mounted right to the bow like I want to do, and it seemed from the article that he didn't have an issue staying in the cone.
Does anyone have ANY hands on with this issue???
Thanks,
Meat Hunter. PS, if anybody knows Warner, could you please have him drop me a line at Leadcore@msn.com

I've tried using the iceducer over the side...didn't work so well. I do know Brian (he's from my hometown). I haven't seen him lately but if I do I'll inquire as to how he has the flasher hooked up on his 619.

Based on my experience vertical jigging lake trout in deep water from a boat with a flasher if there's any kind of wind it can be very hard to keep your lure in the cone and you'll get frustrated pretty quick. I've got the universal transducer on my bowmount Minnkota and the connector plug for my Vex FL-18 and that's the best setup I know of and sometimes it's still hard to keep your lure in the cone. Not as easy as it is when you're icefishing that's for sure because of boat/line drift. If it's really calm out and in fairly shallow water you can do it and using a heavy jiggin spoon like a buckshot rattle spoon also helps. I've also tried just throwing the float over the side of the boat using the wider angle cone on my vex ducer and again, with any kind of wind it's also really, really tough to make that work. Keep in mind most of my experience with this is in water depths of about 60 to 120ft deep. I exclusively troll for walleyes or sometimes cast so I don't ever use a flasher for them except when icefishing but I'd think you'll find the flasher thing easier from a boat in waters less than 30ft for sure.

I have the Universal Sonar, doesn't work at well as hanging the ice ducer over the side of the boat.
I'm anchored when I'm doing this.
I did see a good idea on TV. A walleye pro had his boat anchored and he had it tied directly to the tip of the bow on centerline. If you anchor to a front cleat like I do, you get a side to side movement of the boat in the wind. Any ideas on how to tie off to the bow eye???
