What do guys do with a 1/2 packaged spool of line that's not enough to fit on one reel spool? What I have is braided line (power pro 30lb about 30 yards)and am thinking about adding it to a current spool using a uni to uni knot.... will this work?

I'm a little hesitant because I'd hate to snap it off, get hung up on the rod eyes or worm rig on the reel.

If you don't recommend this then what other uses would you suggest?

Thanks for your comments

when they get too small for even spinning reels, i use the braided for tying stinger hooks.

on occasion when i have a reel with braid that has gotten tangled several times and lost enough line to effect the accuracy of the counter, then i will add more braid with a back to back uni-knot. no failures yet..but..havent had a steelie hit one either :)

Sounds like it would make a passable emergency fillup for in the field or depending on reel capacity; part or all could be used for backing when filling a reel from totally empty. The larger size spool one buys the less likely one is to have stubs like this. This stuff has a very long shelf life.

Sounds like you've got a years supply of dental floss.

pull it off and throw it on an old reel you have in the garage add to it an old fish pole.. tie on a crisp 1.00 $ bill and a split shot .. toss it on the sidewalk in a week or so when all the crumbcrunchers show up in there little costums to take home canybars .. who says you cant go fishing on Holloween..!!!!! its fun... but make sure you have plenty of singles cause these kids are getting quick... steal your bait like a perch... have fun;

Buy larger spools of line to minimize waste. When you get toward the end of the spool and don't have a use for the remaining line, throw it away. We all tend to hang onto items that we won't use but seem too good to get rid of.

I use this excess line on cane poles, to assemble weight and markers for shiner holes (it's a Florida thing) and for use on some Christmas decorations I know my wife will have me involved with.

Beyond that, I pitch it.
