I apologize if this has been done before but here's something I thought might interest some of you. I like to think it would benefit all of us. Come Spring, or even if you are hard water fishermen, it will help your fishing in more ways than first imagined.

Something to print out and read this Winter ?

Not very helpful to the walleye fisherman. An example; understanding fish feeding patterns will not show up on your scientific data. Also, having a biologist background, will not make you a better fisherman.

"Water basics" for walleye fishing are simple. Find walleye in a body of water by understanding their movement. Choose a lure that they will eat.

The only scientific thing that a walleye fisherman needs to do to help their fishing is, open one up and see what they are eating :-)

Can't agree with you more. "KISS" for the most part. However, when we take that premise too far, we are only hurting ourselves by wiping off the lipstick and keeping ourselves stupid.

Not a marine biologist. But it has worked wonders for me to dig into what makes things work and why. Turned being lucky into being good. Caught a ton more fish and bigger fish because of it over the years. That kind of thing isn't going to work for everybody.

Good luck to you.

Here's a link from the DEQ that has some useful (to fishermen) data. Especially the understanding lake data link at the bottom. Much is "actual" data & studies of specific lakes. So it has a practical application, not just boring text book stuff (well maybe a little).

Lots of reading there, too. The water clarity (sechi disc), dissolved O2, lake productivity (fertility) etc.. might find useful...
