I searched the archives and have read many posts, but I haven't found one that directly relates to what I am looking for. I would like to purchase either an IMX or GLX series rod. The rod will be used for pitching 1/8 to 3/8 oz. jig/minnows or jig/leeches in some of our Northen inland lakes. I will, at most be spooled wih an 8 lb. superline (Fireline or PowerPro, but more likely 6 lb test, and fishing no more than 20 ft. of water in most cases. I appreciate any and all feedback, and for the record, I am not considering any other brands at this time, and wil be using this rod exclusively for jig fishing. Thanks in advance. Tight Lines.

My favorite rod for jigging these weights has been the SJR721. I had the 722 first, but I find the 721 more to my liking with jigs up to 3/8 oz. Some may suggest a 6.5' rod, but I like the 6'.
My experience with the 721 is an IMX, but I just bought the GLX version. I have not fished with it yet. It weighs a little less and seems a tad faster than the IMX. I can't wait to use it.
I have heard the GLX is not as forgiving as the IMX as far as fragility. I can deal with that. What I was not intially prepared for was the reel choice. A rod this light needs a light reel. For me it was between a 1000 Stradic Mg (the newest one) or the Daiwa Fuego 2000. The weight of the Stradic was great, but the smaller size, especially the handle length, did not feel comfortable for me, so I got the Daiwa.
My 2 cents.

I'm a fan of the 1 power Spin Jigs for the majority of my Walleye fishing. At 3/8 ounce and higher I usually switch to a 2 power.
6'6" also happens to be my length preference.
The GLX is certainly a nicer graphite than the IMX. I can't say that its as much nicer as the price tag would indicate it should be, but it is a nicer graphite.
Of the idential IMX and GLX blanks I've been weighing and measuring, the GLX's are about 10% lighter. The GLX's also have just a shade more power.

I pitch jigs 80% of the time. I have the above mentioned rods and many more. I like the handle of the walleye series much better than the SJR series. Also the brozeback series has wonderful tapers for pitching jigs. THe light reel comment is right on. The pfluger president size 25 is very light as yet casts far even with a small spool. I would urge you to go to a store and actually put the reel oon the rods you narrow down and test it. THe rods has to feel balanced for pitching jigs.

I have a SJR 721 GLX. I love it for casting and vertical jigging. Using 6 lb. fireline, the sensitivity is excellent. I also have a Loomis "Walleye Series" 6'2" light action jigging rod that I really like for pitching or casting jigs that size. I use Stradic 1000 size reels.

I own both rods and would have to say that I use the cheaper of the two a lot more than the more expensive one. I have had a harder time getting a reel to feel balanced on the lighter rod and I have the touch on the older heavier rod. I would save the money and put it toward a high end reel.

I have both in the GLX and for fishing in 20' or less the 721 is just fine with a 100 Stradic is perfect. Good luck!
At least check out the Walleye series. Better feeling handle and just as good as the more expensive ones.

I received a GLoomis Walleye Series 6' 6" from my son for my birthday. It is a fantastic rod. Me in Ohio, him in Texas, had Scheels in Sioux Falls, SD send to me. Phil
