Have heard good things about walleyes in Bull Shoals Lake in Northern Arkansas. Any tips on whether it would be good there in mid-March? We have some time, might be able to make a trip then.

Thanks.

Went down there a couple years ago in that time frame. Seemed to be too early. We fished up the river near Tannecomo.

Not much fishing pressure for eye's that time of year. Probably two or three patterns that haven't even been found yet. Be a trend setter and locate them for us would ya. Think creeks and rivers, probably the farther up the better.

Chances are much better for some bass or crappie. I have not heard of a walleye caught there, try Hurrell he lives on Lake of the Ozarks, he may venture down there once in awhile.

The lake I will be fishing a lot at is Sam Rayburn TX it had walleye stocked there many years ago, but the chances of me catching one are not worth the time, when there are other more plentiful species.

Same question 2 differtent areas.Dont waste your time in mid march for walleyes-they are deep and not biting.I have been their 7 times in the last 7 years.Very end of april and march are the times to be their. This lake is packed with walleyes-day bite is bass-night bite is walleyes.Bass are not active in march either, waste of time may is the golden month for this lake and norfork.Unless you want stripers.

I stand corrected, I have only fished the area once, but my brother has guide friends at Tanneycomo, Table Rock and Bull Shoals.

RSH8:

Most years the spawning migration is in full swing in the upper lake (Beaver Creek and above) the last half of March. There will be good numbers available, but getting them to bite can be tricky. During the day, pitch small jigs with minnows to bluff banks; at night, toss suspending stickbaits and work them very slow.

Further down the lake, it's a later deal--April. The lower lake is also where you'll have your shot at a world record. Heard of two 19 pounders caught early last year. Same techniques...

The spring bite is notoriously tough (just ask the FLW folks), but if you connect, it just might be the fish of a lifetime! Good luck.

LOL! Even the guides/locals are good at that...no walleyes around here.

I will have to try it out at Sam Rayburn, they don't have any either. :)

If you are going to fish Bull Shoals in March I'd recomend either end of the Lake either stay in Forsythe or Lake View. The most consistent bite is at night with stickbaits but they can be caught during the day. You need to have the mindset that you're fishing for a few big bites it's unlikely you'll catch numbers although it does happen. I've also had some pretty good days trolling at that time of year. If you want numbers try Lake Stockton tons of fish with a few decent ones. BTW I guide on Bull Shoals and Stockton www.brownsguideservice.com. For numbers on fish on Bull Shoals the other post was correct May and June are the best months but that's true of every lake. There will be a tournament Feb 23rd on Lake Stockton put on by Mid-South Walleyes check the results and it might give you some idea what to expect. website for msw is www.mid-southwalleyes.com.

I highly recommend Lee Brown, he will work hard for you. I have been out with him for a great day of fishing on some of the finest waters around here. The day I was with him we caught several nice walleye and even caught two large KY bass on one lure - thought I had a monster... He has excellent local knowledge and loves to teach walleye.

Call him.
