What size line? Mono or florocarbon?

that's whats great about tying your own.. use what works for you. line size depends on size hooks you use. i prefer 17xt and 20lb test. the heavier/stiffer line helps hold the harness out straighter for me.

If you are fishing a spinner, the fish that bite are aggressive fish. Therefore stronger line is the case. I think the early Little Joe Spinners were made with 40 pound test mono. That brings us to something else. I think the speed of your spinner rig moving through the water governs the weight of the line. Slower = Lighter. In any event I wouldn't go below 14 test. If you move slower you will lose some lift. You may want to change out the blades, and leader length to ones that will give you the required lift. Water temp also plays a role in lift. Warm = more lift.

20 pound Seaguar fluoro is the best choice in my opinion. The stuff is apparently invisible, so you can bulk up without fear of spooking fish, it ties better than any other fluoro I've tried, and I'm yet to break one off from a northern or muskie, which was pretty common when I used 17lb XL.
Oh yeah, and Seaguar's website listed the Carbon-Pro as the preferred choice for spinners, as it is more abrasion resistent. It's also way cheaper than the leader material, but performs at least as well.
This has had a major effect on my fishing over the past two seasons, for walleye, trout, and even icefished panfish.
Highly recommended. (Nope, not a sponsor or anything like that.)

For me it depends on the water, flouro 10# for MN clear water lakes, 14# Triple fish otherwise

I use Yo-Zuri Hybrid, 14 lb. test. It has a smooth, almost slick finish that makes it easy to handle and gets the blade turning with any type of clevis, and it's part fluoro. Tends not to twist up as quickly as regular mono, more forgiving than full fluorocarbon, in my view.
