What are your favorite baits to take on a Canadian fly in? No live bait available and a one week stay. Fishing a remote lake with limited fishing pressure and only one cabin. Thanks,

You could take frozen or salted minnows. Also have preserved leeches, crawlers, etc. available.

I don't take those things when I do fly-ins. My best baits are 1/4 and 3/8 oz. jigs and tails. I prefer the larger 4" tails, but always take some 2" and 3" too. Best colors are orange, silk chartreuse, white, yellow, black, electric blue, and opaque pink. I prefer a contrasting color jighead with the tail. Best color on a head has been one I've never found commercially (I make them myself), that combo is orange with green chartreuse. Dip the jig in orange powder paint, then in the g.c. Tip that head with a 4" silk chartreuse tail and you'll catch walleyes. Other colors that are dependable are basically the same as in tails.

Take a handful of Rapala minnow type floaters, some Shad Rap type baits, a couple of big spoons for those gators, and you're set. You don't need 50 lbs. of tackle (although I am often guilty of taking too much).
