I suppose it matters what type of boat and such but I really
like the bunks over rollers

Bunks give the boat better support. Rollers are easier in many cases for loading / unloading. I have a roller mounted at the end of each bunk for easier loading and a tilt trailer for easier unloading. My 1973 Lund hasn't had a loose rivit yet! Support your boat so it supports you!

Not trying to start an arguement--But--Everyone so far has said bunks, so why is it that 80% of the trailers at the boat ramps are roller?

bunks...have used my trailer for 14 yrs....love bunks...easy to unload....easier to load....easy to replace....greater support...if your favorite boat ramp is very shallow at the put in you may elect for rollers as bunks do need a deeper water depth to be closer to the waters edge i believe...steve

Bunks... for the very reason, the boat stays in place until you want it to move. I know of a guy who dropped his brand new Pro-Craft on the landing, 'cause his last trailer had bunks and new one was a roller.( OUCH!!) Not a happy camper. I personally think bunks are easier to align the boat when loading also. I would also have to disagree with the previous poster, in that I think you see more bunk trailers than rollers anymore.

I have had both and had no real problems with either one.

At some shallow launch sites I could not get my bunk trailers into the water far enough to launch without getting all four truck tires into the water also.

Roller trailers allow easier launching at shallow ramps.

My personal experience is that either type, properly set up and properly utilized, are very satisfactory.

Bunks.

I see a lot more bunks than rollers except for the larger boats 20 ft. and up. I think rollers are easier for them to crank onto the trailer due to the greater weights they're pulling up. I would say 75 % bunks for normal fishing sized boats.

I also own and like Bunks.. anyone used upgrade to Roller Bunks like those sold in the Cabelas Catalog? Seems like a great idea that never took off.

According to the self proclaimed 'expert' at the marina where I bought my boat, he said that rollers are fine for glass boats, but to never use them on aluminum boats. The reasoning had to do with divets being created in the aluminum. This of course came out of his mouth after he told me they only sold bunk trailers. I love my bink trailer because I know there is always a few feet of the hull that is permanently clean. I drive onto my trailer without problem. Just trim waaaaayyyy up...lol.

Hi
The reason you see so many roller trailers at the launch is because the boat manufacturers can buy trailers from trailer manufacturers and fit them to so many different model boats. It keeps the cost down. They do not have to fabricate trailers to every hull design they have. Is this bad? No, but is it the best for your investment? I will stick with the bunks. Yes they cost more because they are a custom fit but I like them.

BUNKS !! Bunks offer support to a larger area of the hull. Rollers only do in small spots. There are many reasons , plan and simple Rollers are a pain in the ###. I know how to use both as I do this on a regular basis. Go with the bunks. From the response to this post I beleive you should have definitive answer.

I have bunk and have been wondering about adding the plastic bunk glides that BPS and Cabelas have. Has anyone used them? What are your thoughts. So they help with getting the boat off and on?

Thanks

I see more glass on rollers than aluminum. I was once told that it is an issue of less areas of pressure on a glass hull. Is this true or another misconception?
