I am going to buy a Garmin 176. I have researched this for the last 3 months and am sure the 176 has every feature that I require. My only question is standard (black and white) display or color? I was set to order the 176c (color) this week but after reading this months article in Bass and Walleye boats Magazine, I am not so sure. The little side article on NIT ratings made me open an eye. To put doubts to rest, I phoned Garmin Tech, and was told they don't use NIT numbers for product comparisons. This has me a little unsure of my purchase. I hate to drop 575.00 and not have what I expected.
As anyone tried the 176c in direct and indirect sunlight? I mainly will use this gps for marine and automobile use.
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

I have never used the 176C so I can't answer your question but thought I'd throw this suggestion out for you to ponder: you should look at picking one up off of ebay. I recently bought a 176 for $395. Brand new 176C's usually go for about $485-$495 on ebay. Make sure the seller has plenty of positive feedback and you should be fine.

Here are the current 176C's up for auction:

tip: wait until there is about 5 seconds left in the auction to bid. :)
