Water temp is around 40* and ice just came off. What is a good technique for these fish ?
On Erie it's big lures over soft bottom area adjacent to spawning areas. Reef Runners, Rip Sticks, Rouges, & Husky Jerks ran up high (16' and shallower) in 25 - 30' of water.

Jig and a minnow worked slow and shallow. Also, slip bobbers in the same areas with a small minnow.

Interesting. Must be an Erie thingy.
I've used smaller baits, tight wiggle, run in sputs with longer pauses that suspend or slow rise the bait. Find that first deep drop next to tradiotional spawning areas. Run the baits parrallell to the drop and along it's face. Tick the bottom or wall - stop the bait. Wait 20-30 seconds and start again.

Saginaw Bay is just like Erie!! Sometimes we use #18 Rapalas too!

Opening day up here on LBDN will find me pulling cranks. UP has a later opener than the rest of Michigan, we have to wait til May 15.
