Hey everyone,
I have a chance to get a new Abu Garcia REVO Premier reel for 100$ and I think it retails for over 200$. I have read a lot about these reels and they sound amazing. My question is that since I am mostly a walleye fisherman, can I put this reel to good use and under what applications? Also, what type of rod would you get for an all around purpose? If I got the reel, I was looking at getting a Fenwick Techna AV, 7ft, medium action, also for 100$.
Thanks Guys!

one question: where can I find such a deal?

I know a guy who is a salesman and I can get any Fenwick rod or Abu Garcia reel pretty cheap. I am primarily a walleye and crappie fisherman, so I'm trying to decide what I want. Last year I got 3 of the Techna AV rods, which are great and now i'm looking at getting a couple of the new elite tech drop-shot rods for walleye and a couple of the Abu Garcia Revo rees with a couple of the Techna AV medium action rods. So I guess the question is, what would you get?
Cool! Nice to have friends in good places :)
I have a Shimano Curado 200 (got from Dodge1) that is great, and about the same size style as the Revo. I have it on a St. Croix Avid medium light 6'9" rod, don't recall the model number but it is awesome combo. I use it mainly for smallies and light worms, jigs and tubes, but it also works nice for lindy rigging. I think the rod has a "drop Shot" label on it.
Anyway, I was going to try a Revo when I thought I had a deal on one, but if I am not getting a deal I think I will stick with my Curado, as I really like it. I got some ceramic bearings as well, with no grease, only oil, and it is silky smooth casting!

Internet rumor is, the Premier does not have as good of a drag as the S, SX, STX. Given the fact 24lbs of drag is unrealistic for that reel, I wouldn't worry about it.
Best "all around" rod, IMO, is a 6'6" or 7' fast action, medium power rod...for 'Eye fishing.
You could get a medium heavy moderate action rod and do some deep cranking and light bottom bouncing with it.
Pick what ever brand suit's your fancy...I'm a Loomis faithful myself. I heard those Techna's are great rods though. I would like to give one of those Elite Techs a try too.
BTW, the reel has an MSRP of $259.9?

A new Abu Garcia REVO Premier for $100 is a steal! Minimum wholesale price on the STX is over $150 and suggested retail is $199 (MAP Pricing) and with the suggested retail of the Premier @ $259, you'd better buy all of them you can get at $100 a pop! Price of the Techna AV is about right for wholesale price, but is still under it. Don't know who your buddy is, but even he is taking a loss on the stuff if he's a salesman for them.
I'd suggest you buy all you can while you can with prices like that!
Oh, I'd suggest the AVC 70MF (7' Med, fast action) for that reel, fishing for eyes.

Actually they have 23lbs. of drag which is WAY, WAY more than needed in a bass reel. 23lbs. is more than a 50class Penn has! The Premier does have less drag, about 18lbs. but that still WAY more than neccessary. BTW the drag material is the same so they are both just as smooth.

I used the SX all last year. Very good reel. I'm thinking of buying
the high speed reel this year, for top water lures.
The drag is just fine. But when was the last time a bass or walleye
took any amount of drag?
