Hook sizes not standard?

I used to think that hook sizes were standard until I ran into Ultra Point Mustad. The 2/0 in this hook is smaller than a size 1 in a Gamakatsu. Go figure. I asked the guy at Charlies and he told me that they were not standard. Each company has their own sizes.

Yeah, if you compare the same size hook from different manufacturers, you will sometimes find a little difference in them. The gap and length may vary a little.

They make so many different styles today that it is a little difficult to determine what a "standard" style is, so it is hard to actually compare.

Bill. There was actually a big difference in my example. Otherwise I would have never noticed. I will have to take a hook in as a benchmark when I am comparing sizes.

The is a huge difference between owner 2/0 and mustad ultra point 2/0. The owner is much bigger.
