after ice out what would be the best method from shore or a dock for catching walleyes, this would be in a natural lake and i can cast to a depth of around 10'. is a slip bobber better than a jig at this time of year i am sure water is only about 38 degrees. please be specific with line weight, hooks, etc. as i am just sort of starting out as a fisherman, my parents bought a cabin so i am limited to shore until he puts his boat in which is usually june. wish i could quit school and fish everyday , i learn a lot here, thanks

Christopher, the first thing I would do is to check to make sure the season for walleyes is open. Most natural inland lakes are closed to walleye fishing during ice out periods so as they can spawn naturally without pressure from fishing. I fish Lake Erie and the season is open all year round. When the season does open, I would try casting minnow imitating cranks or if its a northern lake you can sometimes catch them by rigging a walleye size minnow and a slip sinker and fish under a bobber or even off the bottom. Good luck

In the spring it is pretty tough to beat a jig and a twister tail. You can cast all day and not have to replace minow after minow. Lighted bobbers by night are a good option. Six pound test, and experiment with hooks.(colors, sizes, maybe even a small jig below the bobber)

If the bottom is rocky and snag prone I would throw a husky jerk. Work it down initially with a few quick reel turns. Reel and pause. Vary the pause times when using this lure.
If the bottom is sandy or "pebble" gravel the above will work as well as 1/16 or 1/8 oz jig heads with a twister tail.

double hooked crappie rigs will take a bunch of fish from the bank. they are a very effective way to bank fish, and a lot of fun when the fish are going.
