My name is James. I love in southcental Pennsylvania. I been fishing most of my life. I started when I was 8 years old and I am now 33. I fished for catfish, trout, bass and much more but I never fished for Walleye. I grew up in Texas and New Mexico and there is not a lot of Walley fishing down there. I moved up to Pennsylvania about 4 years and have now decided to go after some walleyes. I fished for them a couple of times with no luck. I read a lot but I have a lot to learn and hope this site and this message board will be a big help.

well welcome to your new addiction. you've got plenty of reading here on this site to keep you busy. check not only postings but look at the chatsite records. lots of straight questions with answers from pro's manufactures etc. the best thing would be to enter a tourney like FLW or FLW league as a co angler. your learning curve will have just gone way up. you'll also get ideas on how to rig your boat by looking at all the boats and asking questions.

Very good answer above. The articles section here is above average. The only thing to add would be to study the nature of the animal. . . both fish and man.

Welcome to the brotherhood and good luck.
You will no doubt find tons of information on this site and others.
Soon your tackle box will be overfull but don't worry they make more.
Start with the book Lunkers Love Nightcrawlers (simple but works).

Mr. James welcome to the best walleye site on earth... and glad to see your crossing over to the most challenging fish that swims in fresh water.
Besides all the comments above, if your into an intense fishing experience and accelerated learning curve join a walleye club... find an experience partner to enter in a few tournaments.
If not, concentrate on the techniques that can catch walleye starting very simple to more complex presentations. Pay attention to detail, like water temps, forage base, time of year, different weather situations, speed, depth, color, the hit etc. Keep a log of the lakes you fish. Learn boat control techniques in all types of weather. Learn how to decipher good advice from bad advice on the water. Believe in your fish finder.
Lastly, you will know when it's in your blood, your wallet will be empty, you will be lying to your wife and smiling inside.
Good Fishing!

I second-third and forth the welcome. I'm from Pa. and have moved a little in the past 4 yrs. and I fished Raystown Lake alot. Taught my girls to fish there. The Walleye there, are a little tuff. I have some places I've done well at on the lake. Markers on the lake run from 1-22. Try around #6-5-12-11-13. And Pee Wee island. Also, if you drive a little, over to the Susquhanna and venture onto the Ohio rivers, you will find the walleye plentiful. 8-13 lb fish and bigger live there. Also the river running into Raystown has some dandys too. Also take the time someday to fish Lake Erie. You are so close to the very best walleye fishing in Pa, and Ohio on the western basin of Erie. Look at the 10+ lb fish every year from there. It's staggering. Even here around Angola, and Buffalo, the 'eyes are very nice. Get some Shad Raps. And some Wally Divers. And spinners and jigs, till the box makes your arm hurt as you hold it. And talk at the outdoor shows, and utilize this web-site. You don't know it yet-but you hit the jackpot. :o) Alot of info here. And it's full of truth. Lots of books to look at too. They are at Gander Mtn. and in every book store, around America. Can you tell, I'm infected???? No known cure. NKC.
