A security deposit on a $1 video tape? A potential $1900 customer? Ridiculous! Jess, this could be the beginning of a journey you may not want to take. Search the archives.

MR. FISHGUT. THE VIDEO TAPES COST US 10.00 PER VIDEO TAPE FROM THE VIDEO COMPANY. I THINK IT IS TIME THAT YOU REVEAL TO EVERYONE ON THIS WEBSITE AS TO WHO YOU REALLY ARE SINCE YOU ARE SUCH AN EXPERT ON COSTS OR MAYBE YOU SHOULD CHANGE YOUR HANDLE TO MR. FISHGUTLESS. DICK KNUTSON GENETRON

Dick-
May I suggest you look into a website?

You can build a nice simple one from Walleye Central for free.

You could put up some photos, some info on your products.

Here is the link. If you need help, Let me know.

Is this the same unit that Tom Backer called a Ghost Buster?

Dick - it's still winter and there seems to be more than a few computer gurus here on WC (myself NOT included - LOL). Why don't you have a little contest to see which WC member can design the new Genetron website, using the WC tool Perchjerker mentioned.

You can be the judge, maybe offer some kind of prize for the winner.

With one of your products at stake, I bet there'd be some serious interest. It'd still be cheaper for you than using a professional designer, and easier than doing it yourself. Also, who better to design your sight than your own customers?

Just a thought, do with it what you may.....

Dick, I have a problems with a company that touts itself as having the most advanced sonar but does not have a simple web site. I understand that you are a small company but a web site is the best thing a small company could do for themselves. As for fishguts, the administrator of this site has his IP address if you really want to find out who it is. After the last round of nasty comments, I did do a search on the archieves on this site and on wmi.org another site I frequent. I would have thought you would have learned from your experience on the wmi site not to get nasty with posters on these boards, you got quite a lashing on that site. I could care less about your product, it is to expensive for me, but lets keep it civil and if you wnat to advertise don't do it on here, make a web site. Technical information is always apprieciated but there is a fine line between giving technical information and telling why the GENETRON is superiour to everthing else.

BOBCO. WE ARE FULLY CAPABLE OF PLAYING IN THE SANDBOX. WE DO NOT HAVE TO HIDE BEHIND ALIASES. FURTHERMORE WE ONLY RESPOND TO QUESTIONS THAT ARE ASKED BY POSTERS ON WEBSITES OR BY E-MAILS. WE DO NOT DISEMINATE HALF TRUTHS AND FALSE INFORMATION ABOUT SONARS AND AS WE HAVE SUGGESTED,IN PREVIOUS POSTS, ANYONE CAN GO TO THE LIBRARY AND CHECK IT OUT. WE DO NOT GET NASTY WITH ANYONE EXCEPT THOSE WHO CHOOSE TO BASH AND THEN HIDE BEHIND MOMMY'S SKIRTS. WE DO NOT FORCE ANYONE TO BUY A GENETRON AND AS WE HAVE STATED IN PREVIOUS POSTS WE KNOW THAT MANY PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD ONE. HOWEVER IS IT WRONG TO DISEMINATE FACTUAL INFORMATION TO CONSUMERS THAT WILL HELP THEM MAKE A WISE CHOICE WHEN THEY DO PURCHASE A FISHFINDER? WE KNOW THAT SEVERAL POSTERS ON THESE WEBSITES WORK OR ARE RETAINED BY OTHER FISHFINDER COMPANIES. ONE POSTER ON THIS WEBSITE IS TRYING TO PUSH OFFSHORE UNITS TO PEOPLE WHO FISH INLAND WATERS. SO THE LAST TIME I LOOKED ITS A FREE COUNTRY AND THE PEOPLE WHO VIEW THIS WEBSITE DO NOT HAVE ANY CHAINS ATTACHED TO THEM TO BUY ANYONES PRODUCT. P.S. YOUR COMMENT ABOUT A WEBSITE IS WELL TAKEN. I beg to differ. Steve Fellegy, a person who I do not know personally and is a regular on this website, has a very successful reputation and has won his fair share of tourneys. I have fished with my brother in-law who has one. I would put it up against any Lowrance ever made. In fact, the paper plotters that Lowrance made are probably as good as Lowrance's best unit today... the X15...In fact, why do you think Lowrance used that model number??? Oh, by the way, I use Lowrance for my depth finder, it is a great company, I hope to own a Genetron someday, it is just out of my price range at this time.

Genetron is an awesome product and I have to say thanks Dick for all of your great information you have offered here. I in no way have taken this as advertising. Your products ability speaks for itself!

I assume Genetron has good records of the successes of Genetron/tournament fisherman. My memory tells me names like Dan Plautz & Perry Good had these eyes guiding them to their biggest wins.
And I even got lucky a few times too, usin' a Genetron. I would guess at least 30 to 40 percent of the PWT field has had them on the boat for a few years now. The rest seem to be comfortable gambling with their money with the second team on the field. And a few are just simply good enough to consistently do well and, yes win, with whatever boat, rod, motor, or even depthfinder they use. They have the key. The abiltiy to ENVISION. I'd hate to see what Parson's would do if he had better underwater eyes! lol lol

Dick, Pick yourself up a 10-pack of blank vhs tapes at Wal-Mart and dub your own copies for under a buck. That way you won't have to worry about hassling a potential $1900 customer for a deposit on an 89-cent tape. By the way, in case you haven't noticed, virtually every user on this site has a user name. That's the way things are done on-line. If everyone used their real name in forums such as these, information would flow at a much slower pace. Anonymity gives a person freedom to fully express their views. You choose to use your real name and company name with the possibility of selling a product. Hardly anyone else here is hawking anything so lighten up. I've only offered what I feel is constructive criticism based on mine and a few other peoples experiences that I know, and have not personally attacked you or your company. I tell you what, if I see you at Sportsmans Lodge this year, I will reveal myself to you and maybe we can have a constructive conversation. Maybe then you can explain my past problems with you face to face instead of getting ultra-defensive on the phone and hanging up on me.

LOL, I cant believe that such a simple question has inspired this kind of bashing! If Genetron does not have a web site, its their option, and does not mean they have an inferior product, or company. The website idea from PJ is a great idea, and is a testament to most of the more open minded individuals on this site. Something else that I have noticed is Mr.Knutson and Genetron is the only graph manufacturer that I have ever seen post answers to questions that we ask, and he has taken time out of his schedule to entertain us and write the stories about the Greers Ferry Walleyes saga, that was great stuff!! So give credit where credit is due, I am a Lowrance guy (2-X85's, 1-X75), but I like the Genetron product, and do believe I will be ordering one in the next few weeks, yes they are expensive, but so is a fully loaded Walleye boat and all the goodies to go with it. Dick you keep on posting your stories, and answering our questions, you are a asset to this site and should not get discouraged from a few negative posts. IMHO ;-)

After reading all of this heres my opinion as a potention customer. I am shocked that such an expencive unit requires a deposit for a tape. I bought a tree stand last year ..they sent me a full length hunting video just for asking and didn't even want the tape back. (Tree lounge.) And I'm surprised at a the name calling in the name of ones product. I do however think it is good to be able to get informative answers from the company right here when asked. So I guese I don't know what to think.

Does Lowrance offer incentives to pro's that place? What is the discount given to those guys, or are they paying retail? Follow the money and you might find the answer to your question.

To all potential Genetron customers, please go purchases one of these units, i can tell you there one of the worlds finest sonars but, #1 be very careful with it, dont take it in ruff water or there is a good chance it will break, #2 dont question any of MR KNUTSONS policies or you will be stuck with a very costly broken unit and #3 if you do happen to send your unit to DICK make sure your willing to pay up front because DICK wont look at the unit without your credit card # being given first. Good Luck-Your gonna need it along with alot of cash

Dick im sorry but you sound like a very paranoid man, do you actually believe that there are competitors that would come online to bash your product, or could it be that there are past customers (you do respect you customers views dont you) that are very unhappy with you and your product. It looks to me as if there are customers online here that seem to be happy with your product and some that aren't, but regardless there YOUR CUSTOMERS and i would think they would be treated as an customer instead of a paranoid delusion that they could be a competitor. This is a free country Dick people can say what they want, you should make an attempt to treat your customers with a little more respect after all they did spend a considerable amount of money with your company LIGHTEN UP

I tend to disagree with Skeeter, there is a differance between bashing and the truth, Genetron comes online and defends its product, why cant customers come online and tell there side of the story, i dont believe there lying do you? If there are those kind of people out there shame on them, this is a general discussion chat site and people should be able to tell there side of the story, as i see it Genetron does should they be the only ones aloud to?

I'm curious what the difference is between an off shore sonar and an inland water sonar.

Is it power? My sonar has 1000 watts of power like many other brands and that seems like a lot of power. Do off shore sonars have more power?

Is it Frequency? I've seen some people post that a 50KHz or wide angle transducer frequency is for off shore or deep water only. But I, like many others, use 50 KHz in shallow water to give me a wider view of whats below me. Although I switch over to 120KHz for better detail once I'm in the area I want to fish. Do off shore brands only operate at 50KHz?

Do off shore brands operate better or worse than inland water brands and if so, whats worse about them?

Maybe Dick could clarify what brand is considered an "off shore only" brand so people in the market for sonars know to avoid those if they don't work for inland water.

I'm sure if you go to the websites for Lowrance, Garmin, Eagle, Hummingbird, Interphase, Si-Tex etc. and e-mail a question, you will get an answer. That's the advantage of having a website. Heck, you can download software updates, and owners manuals from most manufactures websites.

The fact that Genetron does not have a website does not mean their sonars aren't any good. But it would sure help in marketing their product rather than the methods currently used. I'm curious what one looks like but I don't want to have to provide my home or e-mail address to see it. No offence Dick.

Dick once again I have to say thank you for all your information on sonars in general and that I do believe you have one of the best products out there.

I do think something needs to be done to get things aired out so we can all learn a thing or two from you and your customers such as S.F., just a (hopefully) helpfull comment.

P.S. your still always welcome to fish in my boat, ##### for that matter, I'd take any and all that want to.

Jess,

I do not believe I know you, and I do not recall referring to any Genetron unit as a "Ghost Buster". I have used these units before and found them to be quality units, they simply are not the units I use.

Jess: "Is this the same unit that Tom Backer called a Ghost Buster? "
