all star rods

anyone currently using an all star rod for jigging? if so , how is the quality? sensitivity , backbone , feel , fast action tip, just curios if anyone had used these and might have any info good or bad! thanks in advance

I build custom rods and have built a lot of jig sticks on
All Star Blanks.

All Star makes a huge variety of blanks, so if you want to get a good jig stick, you have to be VERY specific on the actual rod - out of the All Star Blank.

In the last couple of years, I have found a few All Star Blanks that have exceptionally fast tips. Most folks would say that they are extra extra fast. A great, great jig stick.

All of the folks that I have built these sticks for - with the All
Star blank have been well satisfied, and have caught lots of fish with the rods.

I would say that the blanks are about in the middle - as far as prices go - compared to most manufacturers.
They are also about in the middle with respct to weight.

However, for those specific blanks with the very fast tip, I have found no manufacturer who makes a faster tip.
Absolutely steller for Walleye Jig fishing.

All Star was purchased several years ago by a large conglomeration that also owns Shakespeare. They have discontinued selling blanks to custom builders and from what I've heard from the guys that buy factory finished rods, quality and more significantly customer service have slid downward.

The All Star blanks I've built on, before the buy out, were excellent blanks. All of them from the two highest grade lines. Great product. Or at least it was then.

I think Shakespeare and All Star are now owned by Pure Fishing (Coleman) ??

its too bad that they were acquired by Shakespeare..... they had some great product lines of blanks... and their austin series fly rod blanks are still thought by many as the greatest saltwater blanks ever made.

On a side note, All Star has started importing many of their low and mid range price, assembled rods from China. They NO longer build all their rods in the USA. I guess they didn't have the profit margin to keep them here. The choices for an American built quality rod have taken another hit!
How long before the Chinese just take over. :confused:
