What size fish would you have a replica made of, or consider a trophy?

Debating, caught 2, 10 1/2# 29" and 10 1/4 29"

For me, a ten lber. Since you caught two that day, I'd definitely move it up the priority list. Congrats.

A 10 # fish is a trophy. In-Fisherman thinks so. You caught 2 10's on the same day - make it a double rep table mount - maybe circling each other? Don't give that job to just anybody. . . you will be creating art work. . . not just another wall mount.

I think a trophy is either 10lb+ or 30+ inches
Personally, I have one that is 30inches x11.72lbs. It would take a strong 12 lb for me to mount another.
I think most anglers milestones are 10, 12 and 15 lbs.

ha, so now that you've caught the elusive 10 lber, you have to wonder about if you should have a mount made!

It's easier if you make up your mind ahead of time. I'll just say if you don't make a mount, real or replica - 5 years from now you'll be thinking about the last time you caught a 10 lber, 2 in one day....

They don't come along every day where we are from - drop the cool 700-1000 and have em made up.

I'm mounting my over 10, and over 30" until I have a MN limit on the wall. Then I'll be done with mounts. But, you should have a plan of what to do with them - your fish, your plan, not mine.

Thanks, even a blind squirrel can find a acorn or 2.

I might check into getting something made.

I think a lot of it depends on where you live and fish. I fish Green BAy quite often and already have 2 11 pounders on the wall from one exceptional day, I actually caught 3 32-1/2" fish that day! Now my goal is a 14lb. fish before I mount another one.

AS for the replica I would get a skin mount over a replica and have it done by the best guy you can find. It's not cheap but it's well worth it.

I depends on the body of water.

I fish Lake Ontario and Bay of Quinte so the size I have set is 20 lbs. I have a few 16's that I have landed and have netted fish in the 18lb pound class.

Definitely a personal choice and definitely depends on what the typical trophy out of your water is. A 10# from my home lake would be a very legit trophy. Where I was on the Fox last weekend I have imposed a 12# minimum for wall material...should say I have thus far put no fish on the wall.

Binks,

I believe most mounted fish are painted (unless freeze dried) so no need to worry about saving the color. You do want to take some photos if you want them to pait in the same as it was when i came out of the water though.

A 230#er would be about right.

Congrats on two 10# eyes. That is huge. Wow.

I caught a 10# striper recently ... a bunch of fun, but not big enough for a mount.

Russell Spahr would laugh at me. :(

No seriously, you might want to consider whether you think that you will be catching a bigger one. On one of my last mounts, I caught a big fish, then several years later caught a bigger fish. I did not have the money or the space for the bigger fish.

20, 18 and multiple 16 pounders out of Lake Ontario? Isn't the state record in Ohio still just over 16 pounds by a perch fisherman off Cleveland about 4 or 5 years ago? I am just amazed by the 18-20 pound walleye and catching multiple 16's. Maybe Lake Erie isn't exaclty the walleye capital!

My first walleye mount was my first "Fish Ohio" walleye. My next will be a 10 lber and then I guess I will do increments of 2 lb's from there.

Dang, 6# ... sweet deal. Impressive. Two means it was not a fluke.

Moreyes,

I've seen the pic's of your two 10's in one day and both are very worthy of a mount in my opinion. Great job!!

Very pretty fish moreyes!

I personally don't get the chance to get out as much at all anymore, and I love looking at fish when I can't chase them.......so I'm considering getting a replica of a couple 5 lbers chasing a few small perch. Nice to stare at when i'm stuck ay home.
