What are the best planer boards? Would prefer strike indicator. Pros/cons of why you like it would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

You see way more OffShores than anything else. I've used both them & Church boards. Some like the pull pin line release on the back of the Churches, but I don't see it being a huge deal.

My vote goes to OffShore.

I've been using off-shore boards for years without problems. The tattle-tail flag option works great too. You may have to experiment with different springs on the tattle flags depending on the lures used along with lead-core.
I have recently heard of sidewinder boards and was wondering if anyone has experience with them. Check out sidewinderoutdoors.com.
These look pretty innovative

The best marketed board is the Offshore. It is also the most expensive after you change out the clips so that they will work and you won't loose them. As far as the flags.......find bigger fish and you won't need them! LOL:stirthepot: I use them both, and they both work. What color do you like? You will find that it's like a Ford and Chevy discussion. Whichever you own.....They're the best!

As "sportdog" said Off shore will be the most expensive once you change the clips to use with super lines. I have ran Church Walleye boards, Church TX-22 's, and Offshore. I quit running the offshore boards after loosing them on big fish. I have settled on the TX-22's.

The original church Walleye Board was difficult to tune and required a significant amount of forward speed to keep them standing. Once church redesigned the board (TX-22) I purchased 8 of them. They can be changed to run either port or starboard, you do not need to purchase "special" clips, the internal weighting system allows them to stand at rest, and I love the fact that the back clip keeps the board on the line.

For the initial investment I think you would be happy with TX-22s from Church. You will however see more Offshore boards on the water. Tattle flags can be purchased for both brands.

By two of each and ebay the ones you don't like. Remember when you buy Offshore to purchase a starboard and a port. You can double wrap the clips on the Offshore rather then buy the super line clips right away for testing purposes.

you dont need to purchase those snapper clips for superlines for offshore boards. I just wrap the jaws with a small rubber band. They grip the superlines just fine that way.

PJ, could you be more specific with exactly how you do this? How small of a rubber band? Does this make the board more difficult to remove when you have a fish on? I'm sure that there are a lot of Offshore board owners that would like to know more about this. Thank You.

just take a small rubber band, wrap it around the jaws a few times so it increases the grip of the jaws. Then clip your line in as usual.

Sure, you have to squeeze the release harder to remove the line, but its still very easy.

Any small rubber band will work.

this subject has been beaten to death on here ..kinda like ford vs chevy. My preference is with the Church boards (mr. walleye). no need to upgrade the clip for superline, good to go right out of the box. I find them easier to use when fishing by myself.

One of my buddies is the designer of the sidewinder board. They work fantastic. They are made out of injected molded system that makes them ride the water great. Worth a look for sure.

I have all the Church Tackle boards & I've never had any trouble with any of them. They work great and you don't have to buy extra clips; just buy them and go fishing. Everyone I talk to says the rear pin is the best asset. Also depends on what part of the state you're in, I rarely see a yellow board on the west side, but I guess that's the way it works, I understand Church Tackle is on the west side and Offshore is on the east side.

It's going to be hard to tell by color, Offshore has a red board and Church Tackle came out with a new board that is yellow. I hear that Offshore's red board is not a new design, just a different color - what would be the advantage? I guess gives us a choice of color.

Yawn...the ones I use, of course. It might be a good idea for people to look in the archives before raising a subject that's been discussed many many times.

if everyone would just look in the archives for anwsers, then there would be no new questions since just about everything has been discussed one time or another.

if that was the case the site would be dead

is that what you want???

I doubt it

dont discouage people from asking questions. If you dont want to be bothered with them then just dont open the thread to begin with

if your son was to ask you a question you have heard before, do you tell him to "go look it up?"

I hope not

You're right PJ...guess I'm just growing weary reading about the best planer boards and the best nets. The questions are sincere but the answers are always the same.

I have both. Once the offshore has been upgraded with teh OR-18, it is my preferred board. If I were doing it all over again, I would just buy two sets of Church and not have so much wrapped up in a set of Offshore's. That way if you lose one it isn't such a big deal. Let's face it, it's a joke that they even put the junk black clips on those Offshore's. They're worthless.

IMO, the Church is the best for your money. Money not a factor? Go with the Offshore's and the upgrades.

I use the Off-shores and made up my own front 'clips'.
Kind of like the old Willy board concept, the line gets pinched by a rubber and plastic washer. If you run the line on the inside of the 'clip', it will not release until you remove it from the board.
(There is a pic of these boards in 'my photos')

very clever on the release idea.

Instead of using snappers for superlines, I wrap an OR-16 with a rubber band to increase tension like I mentioned earlier.

I like your idea even more

Thanks PJ, I've been using this set-up for at least ten years.
If there is one thing I hate, it's chasing boards around the lake that came unclipped. This also seems to prevent the board from diving under the water when you have a heavy fish on, not sure why though...

REELMAN

how about a better picture of this set up .
how do you loosen it up to take the board off?
is there a wing nut underneath?
looks like something i need to copy.
what did you use for ingredients?
??

thanks for the neat idea

I'm wondering how the wally boars worked (any opinions) I just bought a boat and the guy left me a set of these in the boat. I've yet to try them out the ice is just starting to go out, but I might get to fish in the river tonight.

Far as I'm concerned, you got the best planer boards on the water. I have tried them all, and I use the boards all the time I save megabucks on fuel, because I can cover so much more water, church tackle has the best customer service they are second to none.

Good fishing
