Better ask it straight up..

In the end , i can only fish with one line , and it's going to be one of these two,....
Berkley Trilene XL or Sensation, so ...just these two mono lines, no copolymer(Gonna check that out), no fluorcarbon, no braids,...
Just mono lines , and i will be using one of these two
Berkley Trilene XL or sensation....
I use 4# - 6# , ,...on a spinning reel...
So , ..if it was your call ,...what would it be?

walleye fishing with livebait..

Berkley Trilene XL or Sensation????

Given that both the Sensation and XL in the #4 & #6 are the same diameter (0.008 & 0.009 respectively) you will gain nothing in respects to amount of line on the spool. Trilene XL has a long standing, overall good track record in regards to it's performance. Sensation however, in my estimation is a better overall performer for strike detection, lower stretch and much lower spool memory. If I had only the choice between the two, I'd have choose Sensation over XL, but either way you go both are good lines and will likely serve you well.
Choosing where you buy the line many times has a greater pleasure/displeasure impact on how well the line performs for you. If you buy your line from one of the many "chain" stores, many times their lines are stored in non temperature controlled environments, and the mono lines, especially the smaller # test lines are very subject to deterioration due to extended periods of being stored at higher than is good temperatures causing the line to fail. Look for a good independent fishing/tackle store that orders direct from the manufacture and you will find the line you get there is of general better quality.
Good luck with your choice, as stated above, either choice should suit your needs! Good fishing!

I use nothing but Berkley lines.I had always used XL for my casting rods untill Sensation came out. Now all of my casting rods carry it.

For the last several years - Sensation has been my go to line.

Quite a bit less stretch with Sensation compared to trilene.

Trilene is fine, it just has more stretch.

The following quote is from the Berkley Web site:

NEW! MULTI-POLYMER FORMULA gives Sensation EXTREME SENSITIVITY, STRENGTH, and CONTROL. Ultrasensitive and ultra strong, Sensation is abrasion-resistant and easy to cast. Small baits cast more easily, crankbaits go deeper, and spinnerbaits run truer. Sensation gives you total control over your presentation, from cast to hook set.
===============

Note the use of the words - multi-polymer --
as Berkley speaks of sensation.

From these words, I suspect that it would be appropriate to call Sensation - co-polymer line as is the case for many other brands of line that use such words in describing their low stretch, abrasion resistant line.

-------
Summary - all that I know is that Sensation is my favorite mono line to use. In particular - the use of Photochromic gold colored line is even better when jig fishing to make the line visible for those light bites.

Take care

Berkley sensation color photogromic gold, i've searched the net , and at berkleyfishing .com, and cant find a picture or an image of that line, just the package.
Is someone willing to send me or post me a picture of the line itself?

You should be very happy with Sensation, I am. Like others have stated, small dia. less stretch, very good knot strength & abrasion resistant. Try it, what have you got to lose by trying??

Good luck,

Not a bad word about Trilene here,..must be good too!
But it seems like almost everyone that replied(thank you guys!) switched over to Sensation, so thats clear that sensation is a better ( technical) line!
See a bit of stretch isnt a problem, but it seems like it has less memory compared to trilene xl too!

There is no comparison, IMO. Sensation is superior in every category that matters except maybe casting distance. It's the best mono made right now.

It must be sensational, and way better than Trilene xl!
I'll give it a shot, see what that sensation is like !

Just got the Berkley Trilene in the mail today, and it's a good line, and i think its a lot better than sensation, 'cause i like a bit of stretch in the line, its real good , and think it casts a lot further than sensation!

Sensation here. IMHO the best mono available.

Good choice either way you went. Both lines have many similarities as well as differing characteristics and I'm sure you will be happy with the choice you made, especially the stretch factor if that is what you were looking for. Now, spool'em up and go git a big-un!!

I have used XL most of my life.... in light lines on spinning reels.

However, the past few years, I have gone pretty much to "Sensation" for my light weight mono situations.

But to be honest I use more Fireline now than anything!

Trilene is a very soft line, and when i put a hook on, with the normal snell knot , the line is de-formed for half an inch,..it curls up just above the hook..
now,..it isnt weak after that ,..its still strong , its just that the line is nice n limp , but very very soft!
Overall i think the line handles itself very good ,..it comes off the spool, very nice n easy ,..it doesnt jump off , casts very good(spinning reel) (better than sensation) i use 4# & 6# lb , for rigging live bait , walleye fishing.

Good stuff!
