No, really.. It's really tuff catching fish when the river is up 5 feet and roaring.. Ive pretty much elimated vertical jigging in this situation i probebly shouldnt, does anyone have any techniques that will work if time is invested. i remember spring valley last year.. less then 10 fish cought the whole tourny. Does anyone have any techniques that will assist in putting fish in the boat when the river is roaring?

I guess for me current seams, tight to the bank, shallow water, slow presentation.

Spring time flooding is an excellent time to "rip lips", but you have to think willows. On the Mississippi, I target small bays that have stands of willows on the edge. These willows are generally 8 to to 20 feet from the water's edge during normal water conditions. I generally will be wearing hip boots and walk the edge. With a jig(1/8 oz) and soft plastic, I will use a flipping technique next to the willows.
Knowing the shoreline during normal water conditions is very beneficial since you can find the depressions in the willows - or as I like to say, jackpots!! It is not uncommon to find a school of females stacked up in these jackpots.
My son and I caught 8 fish over 6 pounds in less than 1/2 hour out of such an area. We caught over 30 fish from that area in that hour, keeping only 4 for eating. I wish we would have clipped a fin on each, because I swear we caught the same fish several times.....one a crooked back and I caught it 3 times - jeeez!!! You also have to prepared for the catfish attacks...lol. Hardest thing in the world is trying pull a catfish out the willows where they have gone through a zillion trees.
This does not work in other flooding situations - only spring. Late spring/summer flooding is purely a guessing game for me, but backwater grass is where I have my best luck, although inconsistent.
Just Rip Lips and Keep a Tight Line
