O.K. These are supposed to be the hot crankbaits for Erie last spring. Any idea on which colors seemed to work the best? Figures, I just bought a bunch of discontinued prism thundersticks now I guess I need some of these.

One other question is exactly what kind of paint are they using and where can I buy some? Read about the paint somewhere and now I can't figure out where. Anyone know? Thanks Craig

The best colors for me last year were the Blue/Glow, Purple/Glow, Firetiger/glow, and the natural Perch, which is not a glow lure. The great feature about these lures, is that they actually glow the color they are, not just a lime green color. It lets the fish see a variety of color. Gives them a better target.

My neighbor is a veteran from the Navy, and holds the world record deep dive with the Navy. He explained to me what image baitfish look like from his veiw, looking up at them from below. He said, batfish leave a trail in the water, same as you would see, if you watched a kid twirl a sparkler around at night. He also said, fish seem to seek this out. Now, I don't know, or profess to know if walleyes seek the same, but I do know walleyes like these lures. I have never, in all my experiences walleye fishing, seen one lure dominate the water so much. The thing I could not believe, was that no one across the country ever heard of these lures. They were only available at Dunkirk. The charter Captains there, won't leave port without them. Gilligan, was the guy, who told me about them. then he fished with me. I tried all my lures that I had been successful on Lake Erie with, and only caught(1) 3 lber on all my attemps for 3 days, using my old faithfuls.

Last thought, I believe there are 14 colors in the Crystalina finish, and 6 new colors in the FireGlow. They are also available now, in Deep Divers in the 5 inch baits. The 3 1/2 Deep Divers, will be ready in about 3-4 weeks. The mold is ready, just need to do some prototypes, and water test for running ability, which won't take long. You will like them.

For colors, and fact, call Denise at 1-800-342-2803.
I will try to keep you's all up to date on the lures as they become available.

Craig:

I don't know the name of the paint, or know if it is available to purchase. I do know, that Renosky Lures does have jigs, and plastic's available in the same FireGlow line.

Check it out at; 1-800-342-2803 talk to either Joe, or Denise.

Hope this helps,

Hi Gary!!! Have you ever had any success with these "fireglow" lures in a river system such as detroit or for sauger in a system such as the illinois????

No, I first learned about them last Aug., when I was at Dunkirk,NY.

I have not been able to use them since, but I look forward to Lake Erie with them. I am sure the 3 1/2 inch would work fine for the Ill River Saugers. If you use Rapala's now at the Detroit river, then I would bet these would work better.

Hope this helps,

Where does a guy from North Dakota get some of these?

I believe Scott has them available right here on WC. I think if you go to the product list, and click on the FireGlow, you will have the info you need.

Hope this helps,

Gary Gray sent a message with an 800 number. I called it and place an order. I'm sure you can do the same, they were very helpful.

I USED THE FIREGLOW PLASTICS WHILE FISHING WITH BILL ORTIZ ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER IN DEC. OF 2001 AND WE KILLED EM.

I have been a meat fisherman for most of my walleye fishing days. The Renosky made the scene in Dunkirk about 5 years ago but last season it turned on so that it was the only thing I put in the water!

Update on the FireGlow. I just got off the phone with Joe this morning, and he said the Small (3 1/2 incher) would be done in about 2 weeks. All is going well, the larger (5 inch baits) are in production now, and have been for a few days. Orders should be sent out shortly.

I also asked about a flyer on the plugs, and he said it is at the printers. The catalog should be done first part of next week.

Hope this helps,
Gary

Gary,

Is is true that the Fireglow lures resemble the old Storm Thundersticks? I have always liked the old thundersticks and if these lures perform like those and with the new glow colors you can be sure I'll be using them.

Wally:

Yes, these lures are about the same size, but the colors will amaze you. the new FireGlow colors will be so effective in stained waters, and deep waters. The 3 1/2 inch lures, are narrower than the thunderstick, but the rattle chamber is louder. I was with storm lures from the beginning, and designed the baby thunderstick for John Storm. I did very well in a lot of tournaments with the old style thundersticks. When Normark discontinued them, I happened onto the Renosky lure through Gilligan at Dunkirk. Once I seen how the lures ran, and talked to Joe about making a deep diver in both series of his lures, I got excited. I knew from the start, that these lures will replace the old style thunderstick's performance. I only wished that I could have kept them a secret for this upcomming season.

Good Luck,
Gary

Want to try a couple of these in central MN natural lakes. Since my crankbait habit already requires a 12 step program, was hoping Mr. Gray would give me his opinion on which of these he would pick if he could only have about a half dozen.

In Reply to your question:

I guess if I was going to need to choose favorites, I would go with the Blue/Glow, Firetiger/Glow, and then the Natural Perch in the standard(Crystalina finish). Purple/Glow is not a bad choice either.

Hope this helps,
Gary Gray

Gary any idea what the dive curve will look like on these things? Are they close enough to the old thundersticks that the curve would be close? I orders a 6 pack of the 3 1/2 inchers for Scott this morning.

Jim.. Scott has some of them right here @ WC on the products page. If you are around Lake Erie Central/east end try Dicks or call direct to the company. I beleive Gary has the 800# listed on this thread.

Gary,

Do you think it is the action or colors that make these lures work so well?

Gary Gray
03-01-2002, 11:12 AM
Wally:

I think it is a combination of the color and the rattle chamber, along with the action of the bait, that makes these lures so good. The sides of these lures, have little concave pockets, that disrupt the water flowing past them. The more the disturbance, the more attention of the fish, hence triggering a strike. This is only my opinion, from what I seen when I ran these. But, again, I have never seen one lure dominate a body of water like these. I'm sure they will work elsewhere.
