View Full Version : VHF RADIOS
I have a uniden 535. Someone told me it will only last a couple of years because it isn't made very well. This doesn't make sense, it is solid state. What goes wrong with them unless they are exposed to the elements. Anyone have good or bad luck with this product.
I have owned 2 Uniden radios, first one would cut in and out use to bang on it and it would start working again. Second one just took off my boat and replaced with a Raytheon, lost all channels on the Uniden from 29 to 61. Got about four years service out of each unit, both units had a cracked circuit board. My advice you get what you pay for buy a Raytheon. Good luck.

I've got one sitting in my garage collecting dust. The mic is broken. It receives fine, and you can hear the radio click when you push the transmit button, but no voice. And I don't know Morse code. I've tried finding places to repair it, but so far nobody repairs marine or CB radios. So I'm thinking of replacing it with the Raytheon.
I have a uniden radio as well. Can't recall off hand what model it is. I have always been able to receive very well with it, but can not transmit out nearly as far. Overall I have been very frustrated with it. I thought I was buying a good radio, but apparently not. I do by the way have an 8ft 6db shaekspeare antenna....so I don't believe that is the problem. Please let us know what you go with and how it turns out. Thanks and good luck.

Just got rid of a Uniden - traded the boat. The radio was 12 years old, bought it for the boat in 1988 and it was working fine... Don't remember the model, but it was not expensive because it did not have scan or weather button. I think there are a lot better radios out there but I couldn't complain about the Uniden.

Have been using the 535's big brother the 795 for 4 years with no problems at all. I receive well over 20 miles away on Lk Mich. Furthest transmission I know of has been about 16 miles. Had a President 950 before that which was exactly the same radio but a black case. I worked great for 3 years before someone decided that they wanted it and forcefully removed it from my boat.
