I heard a rumour that they cut the Canada commercial quota in half. Sure hope so.

I have never fished erie or detroit river but I already have a trip planned for the 14th march. I don't want to tell grandkids I just never made the time before they raped it and wiped out the good eye population.

Though the population has been dropping steadily I believe that it is because of several factors. Want to stop the drop? I doubt it will work because many of the causes have nothing to do with comercial or recreational fishing. The walleye are facing more competition and the fertility of the lake is dropping. That means the biomass has to drop too. More competition for less food means less Walleye. What the US and Canadian fisheries management are going to have to do is try to insure that the commercial and recreational limits are left in such a way that it does not impact the drop more. I doubt even if you were to stop both types of fishing that the fishery would continue at it's current levels. Just like with the economy the balloon was bound to bust sooner or later.
