ANYBODY OUT THERE EXPERIENCING POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH FIG RIG? THEY WERE SURE IN A HURRY TO GET MY MONEY, BUT HAVE BEEN VERY UNRESPONSIVE IN RETURNING PHONE CALLS REGARDING PRODUCT SUPPORT.

MY ROD LOOKS LIKE A GROUP OF 3RD GRADERS PUT IT TOGETHER.

Putting the looks aside... how does it fish? Steve (IA)

I would lean towards giving them the benefit of doubt right now. Give them a chance to work it out. The Rod deal is a new company, give Kevin a chance.
That being said, I am considering picking up a couple of jiggin rods. For those of you who have already purchased these rods, 1) how do they fish, and 2)Did Mudflat just get a goofy one, or is there room for improvement on the appearance?

Thanks in advance

I ordered a rod almost two months ago and have not received it. I called them two weeks ago and they said that there was a problem with the handles and my rod was being made as I was talking to them and would be shipped in a day or two. Called them on Tuesday, two weeks later and was told the same story. Now reading about the qualiaty of mudflat rod, I am very concerned. New companies should be concerned about product quality and honesty.

STEVE_IA: THE ROD IS GOING BACK FOR A REFUND OR EXCHANGE...I AM LEANING TOWARDS A REFUND. I'M SURE THAT WILL TAKE ME INTO ICE FISHING SEASON!!

MORT: SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE GETTING THE SAME RUN-AROUND I HAD WITH SHIPPING. I SUGGEST YOU STOP THE ORDER AND GET YOUR MONEY BACK.

I have two FigRig Rods, the Fiber Pro series 661 & 662. The first rod, the 662, had some very very small orange peal on wrap glue, but was otherwise clean. They add two more guides then some of the other rods and the wrap is tight, clean and straight, the handles are firm and the reel seats solid. The glue was of small concern, but that vanished when I fished with it. I can get over the small cosmetics, not that you should, because this rod is smooth, sensitive and very quick on the hook set. I boated more fish this weekend with that rod then my partner did with his IM6 (brand irrelivent), because my partner had a lot of shake offs and then break offs (Tried to set the hook better) with his rod. We both use the Trilene/Fireline/Vanish combo that I have spoken about. I never lost a fish from either. In fact I have the same jig on the rod that I started with on Saturday morning.

The 661 came in a few weeks before opener in pristine condition and I had a chance to use it on the crappies and was equally impressed with all the same features. I used it for walleyes on Sunday for some variety and landed a 2.5 pounder that I thought was the minnow wiggling on the jig.

Needless to say I am very happy with both of these rods.

If you feel that you got a bad rod, then call Kevin and he will get you squared away. Perhaps he has gotten more orders then he can handle and is stuggling with the growth, but I would get in touch and provide them with an opportunity to clear this up. I will also alert him to your specific issue and see if I can get you an answer.

In the mean time, try the rod and see what you think about its performance. You might be able to overcome some of the cosmetics. However, if it is really important, and to some the look is as important as the performance, then get a replacement.

After all, it is YOUR rod and YOU should feel good about it, you paid for that.

Just checked out the Fig Rig site. I would say get a Loomis or St. Croix. The customer service is great, High quality rods, and put together right. Their high end rod runs close to what you could buy a G*Loomis GL3 or a St. Croix Avid. I own 3 St. Croix's and do not regret buying them.
I had Jeff from Jeffs Custom Rods build mine. He also does G*Loomis. Check his site or email him at: jeffs @ cgtelco . net
site is at: jeffscustomrods . weyes1 . com
Remove all the spaces from the two addresses.
Jeff will give you a good price and a custom built rod the way you want it. His quality is awsome.
He is running about two months behind because he works a 56 hour work week at his real job.

FigRig is a new company that is experiencing very rapid growth. They went right to college from kindergarten, so there's alot for them to learn about everything, in all aspects of business. Give them a break, and don't pick them to pieces, no one likes that or deserves it, and it's not fair to judge so quickly on just one order. The big retailers, if you can remember that far back, all had huge problems, but they learned as they grew. Lay off FigRig, maybe ask them where you can help, comment, or feedback, everyone needs a little guidance once in awhile, even you mudflat.

chesterP: LAST TIME I CHECKED I WAS PAYING FOR THE ROD WITH MY MONEY, NOT YOURS. REAL NICE OF YOU TO JUDGE MY EXPERIENCE WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE THE FACTS!

AS FOR YOUR COMMENT "Lay off FigRig, maybe ask them where you can help, comment, or feedback, everyone needs a little guidance once in awhile, even you mudflat." LET ME BREAK THIS DOWN FOR YOU. HARD TO GIVE THEM HELP, COMMENT OR FEEDBACK WHEN A)THEY DON'T RETURN CALLS AND B)BASICALLY LIE TO YOU REGARDING SHIPPING.

YOUR COMMENT STATING THAT I NEED A LITTLE GUIDANCE IS GENERALLY CORRECT, WE ALL DO. BUT IN THIS SITUATION, GUIDANCE SHOULD BE DIRECTED AT FIG RIG.

REGARDS, MUDFLAT.

In your defense, Mudflat, you are entitled to complete satisfaction and I am very confident that you will get it. However, in the last year, I have never had a problem getting in touch with Kevin or anyone else in the shop. All my e-mails have been returned with answers so I am miffed that you have never had a response. These rods are everything they say they are and FigRig is very concerned about its image and customer service.

In defense of ChesterP, small companies provide things that the big guys sometimes can't, direct access to the top as well as inovative product quality and service that are second to none. Growth is a very difficult tiger's tail to handle and an understanding on the customers part is required. You may feel that you are not interested in this transition and you are entitled to that opinion. But I would ask you to reconsider and find a common ground. I know you will love this rod in the end.

You people haven't heard anything yet compared to my Fig Rig story. Read on.

In February of 2000 I purchased a Fig Rig from Kevin. My account was debited for the amount within days. Kevin said “I would have the rod in two weeks”. Well, two weeks went by and no rod. Called Kevin and said there was a delay with shipping containers, but will get my rod out today.

Another week passed, still no rod. Another call to Kevin, another excuse. A few more weeks and I called again. Kevin said the rod had been shipped and must have been lost during shipping?

Rod finally arrives two months later (mid April). Take the rod out of the container only to find that the guides don't line up with the reel seat on the handle. Better yet the guides are not wrapped/glued on straight.

I call Kevin and ask if anyone in the Mpls/St Paul area has the Fig Rig product so I can look at a few others and make an exchange. Kevin states that he is going to work with Pro Sporting Goods to stock the Fig Rig.

This is where the fun starts. Kevin says he will be at Pro Sporting Goods on two occasions. Kevin never shows up?? I call Kevin and ask where he was. I get the "I was busy" response. Kevin then gives me the option of returning my rod for exchange or refund. I choose refund and send my rod out.

It arrives at his location on April 28. I call Kevin a week later, because he won't respond to my e-mail, and ask when my refund will arrive. He says a check was cut and I should have received it by now. Another “it must have been lost”. My guess, he never even cut a check.

We agree to credit my credit card for the amount. As of today, I am still waiting for that credit. Sent two e-mails regarding this issue, but have not received a response.

A final note, during the time I had problems/issues with the rod and refund, Kevin rarely responded to my e-mails.

Now, given that, do you still want a Fig Rig?

I have never heard of FigRig but I don't think I will ever buy one or suggest it to anyone. Thanks to Kevin and his style of customer service. I think it is completely unacceptable to say "give them a break", when they are not honest about delivery and so on. It is managements decision on dealing with product growth not Kevin's. If Kevin has a problem with being honest then he should be working as a janitor where his style of descion making will not affect customer sales. If it's too hot to handle all of the sales then you should bring it up to management. If management doesn't do anything then it doesn't matter how good the product is no you will never grow or gain thinks like customer loyality. And if they make such good rod's why are they sending junk out the doors? What you are reading here is the making of a "bad reputation". BTW: If you are the manager or management then you should quit or be fired. Sorry for the poor attitude here but this is common sense stuff....

Dude? What are you talking about. You claim you have never seen their product, but you will not buy one because of a couple of nameless, faceless posts (could be the same guy, different names). People like you are are the reason false rumors spead like the New Mexico wild fires.

I have a Fig Rig rod. Haven't had any problems. Wouldn't want another rod if I had a choice. New companies require different expectations.

I would be really pissed if I didn't get the rod or the refund like RAM's situation. It's like going to Taco Bell and they forget one of your Cholupas.

Their product is worth the hassles.

Ron

My opinion is that NO product is worth hassles. There is enough competition out there that you can always find someone who can provide you with a quality product without the hassles.

LAST EDITED ON May-22-00 AT 04:41PM (CST)[p]Stinky, RAM, MUDFLAT and a few others are ghosts with ghost e-mails. Let it go brother! I have 2 rods and have no clue what either one of these guys are talking about. In fact, neither does the MFR of the rods or the other products MFR that one of these guys has bashed for identicle reasons in the past. It was all made up.

Thought I would not remeber eh MF?????

Careful which stone and where you throw it.

You're the individual who started the unwanted thread on my question asking for input on GLoomis and St. Croix rods only. Possibly you should consider your postings. I find it difficult to believe that a ring of phantoms are slamming this company, but regardless, I'm not buying one and this is my last post on the subject. Good fishing.

Gosh, some of these guys are pretty serious about the whole thing.

The feeling in the palm of my hand when I get a nibble on my fig rig is amazing. Never before have I felt something like it.

It's their loss believing someone else and not you.

Tight lines.

It seems odd that some people say they are junk and some say just the opposite. To the people who actually own these, are they really good? Do they look good as well?
thanks

Best darn rod I have ever had. I want to buy more, but I own a Ford, so I have to dump a couple hundred bucks in that everymonth or so.
