Thought it would be a good topic on what little tid bits we all do that we "think" helps when trolling cranbaits.

I sometimes like to add a little gulp crawler on the front hook. I also like to buy red stickies and put them on the bait, I've used perm markers and painted the bill red or add red spots on the bait. I've added red hooks to crankbaits.
As far as trolling. If I'm not using boards. I like to make sure I'm pumping my crankbaits. I don't like my baits running the same speed all the time.
I also like to switch the speed up, I like to very the speed all the time from 1.8 up to 3 mph.
Also a good idea if using multiple crankbaits. Run one lure higher in the water column. Have one crankbait 5 feet off the bottom.

Any one else like to add to their little things they try or what reallt works for them?

I like to stall the engines at times esp. if I'm pulling floaters. If there are followers they have to decide to bite or not when the lure floats up.

In snag infested trolling waters remove the belly treble hook, and replace the rear treble with a barbless Triple Grip treble hook.

When trying to dial in a bite try trolling a #4 floating Salmo Hornet behind a 1 1/2 oz bottom bouncer. Run the Hornet 4-5 feet behind the bouncer and zig-zag depths from 6' to 30'. Works well in snaggy areas too. You can also use this rig on open water to locate suspended fish....as a improvised downrigger.

Trolling by myself
I like to run one line straight lined and one on a board
Just to see how they would like it.

For speed I'll zig zag a couple times to see how fast to go
Time of the year will give you a starting point

And if there's allot of floating weeds, cotton wood or may flies
I'll run a snap 10' up from the lure to keep any thing from running down on the lure.

Always troll with the wind to your back just for the boat control
