Hello guys I would like to ask a question on leader length. What would be a good leader length if I'm pulling dipsey's in 40' to 60' of water. If its not to much to ask why does the leader length play such a major role. I use Spoons, Harnesses, and plugs like Reefrunners,Deep Down Thundersticks. Lake Erie's Central basin is usually where I launch (Walnut Creek). Thanks in advance.

Whatever you decide to do the leader needs to be shorter than your rod.

Is that because it makes it easier to land a fish

Yes. There is another diver called a slide diver that you can run with a longer leader but i've never tried them. I'm sure many others here can tell you more about them.
If carpetbagger sees your post he can tell you a lot about using dipseys and he also launches from walnut mostly i think. If you let away to leave a personal message someone could email you privately.

Most guys use 6-10 foot leaders with their dipseys. If you ever have a chance to use a slide diver give it a try, been using them for about 3 years now exclusively and love them. Dipsey's are getting dusty in the basement.

stiker,
I know they're in the newer editions but don't know which edition they started. Sorry wish I could help with that. You might be able to find it on there website, believe it's slidediver.com.
Hope this helped.

5' to 8' on regular dipsey ~ I've gone to the new slide diver called the Lite Bite slide diver from U- Charters. This diver excells as it can be set to release with the slightest amount of pull from very small fish.

I just ordered a Lite bite diver to try and was wondering what type of line do you find works best with the slide divers?

just tried my first lite bite slide diver on 20# proline. This is a great setup. They supply some short sections surgical tubing to use with braided line. I don't think I will be using the old dipsey divers any more. I can't wait to try running a slide diver with a diving crank for eyes.

Striker,
Just saw the post and saw dave already had me all hyped up as the walnut creek guy so figured id better respond.
I generally run my dipsy lead around 6ft...By the time you hook a snubber to it its probaly almost 7ft (If you use snubbers).
Shoot me an email ill get you on to whats going on at walnut creek we fish there 2-3 days a week right now. Buddies of mine fish during the week so we stay on top of the fish pretty much.
