I was thinking about trying a deer decoy this fall. Are there any portable, light decoys out there? (Foam or hollow plastic which can be folded and put into a pack sac?)I have only seen the solid ones and they don't look too convient to carry.

Thanks BobK. Have you used them? Do you know if they are 3D or are they just a flat 2D sillouette?

I tried a Flambeau 3-D folding silhouette with poor results. Bucks ignored it and does HATED it. I will sell it cheap! Now going with a Carrylite fullbody which should work fine. I'll use it in bow season and then the night before gun opener will put it near my (adult) son's stand. (All on private land of course.) I bet he shoots it!

Take care, O F

I've never tried the fold up kind. There are a lot of new ones on the market now. I've used the full body carry-lites and have had many opportunities but mostly just fun to watch what happens. I always have a video with me and have enjoyed watching deer coming into a decoy. Only really had one nice buck come in though. It was to late and couldn't shoot. Still fun to watch. NOTE: You have to keep the decoy scent free of human smells too! Don't hang it in the garage.

Tony,
Sorry I haven't use that style. It looks like it's just a flat fold up type . I use my 3-D target for a decoy, with a little scent on the rump. Works fine for me.

I used both a Flambue (sp) life size, and my McKenzie 3-d target. Both work great. One thing to remember about any decoy which has moveable ears is that if you position them wrong you will spook deer. I had the same problem with deer not responding the way they should have and talked to a factory rep. who told me that ear position sends body language to other deer. Read your directions, use them correctly, and you'll love them.

I know this doesn't answer your portable question, but I have been using a full body Flambeau decoy for almost ten years now. I added a tail wagger to it because deer were too cautious around it. It works OK but most times its more work to carry it in, especially when you don't see any deer or the deer you see don't see the decoy.

I have a carry-lite. The head and legs store inside the body. I put it in a great big duffle bag and throw it over my shoulder. I also put tube socks on the legs to keep them from rattling around. Good luck - Stu
