[font color=green size=3][b]I've owned one for years, a modern reproduction by H&R of the 1873 Springfeild Trapdoor, it's a fun gun and packs a wallop.

I had an original trap door Springfield. It was fun to shoot with black powder, smoke everywhere!! Had a few boxes of smokeless reloads, loaded to appropriate pressures. That gun had been in the family since about 90 years ago. Enjoy yours, if you decide to go that route.

My cousin hunted with one for a few years and had great results, really sledgehammered deer within 150 yds. He had it bored to a .45/120 a couple years ago just for kicks and thats just what he got. The thing kills on both ends, he should have left well enough alone becouse it was efficient the way it was. Good caliber to mess around with if you have the time to reload.

I have a Marlin lever action in 45/70. I love the gun, especially in wooded, brushy terrain. It puts a white tail down in a hurry. I guess you should expect that from a 400 grain bullet. The recoil is not bad, but that's from someone who was a machine gunner when young and still finds a .300 win.mag pleasant to shoot. It is now my rifle of choice for most of the areas I hunt.
