While sitting in my deer stand in N. MN. this saturday I spotted a large Wolverine. It hung around my stand for a good 10 min. I've never seen one in the wild and to have one within 40 yards and hanging around for so long was pretty cool. Made my season.

Cool, what part of the state were you hunting? I have never had the chance to come across one but a friend had one back him down a trail while he was grouse hunting. He said he did not want to meet up with one again. Scared the color right out of him. Mike

North of Naswauk on Hwy 65 by bear lake. My geuss is he was hanging around bacause I had a couple gut piles left over from opener. I'll probably never see that again, wish I would have had a good zoom camera with me.

Cool! Stuff like that makes my day, too!

I have seen three in all my time inn the wilds. Two were through binoculars , maybe 200 yards away, in a "park" I was glassing while hunting elk. The third... years later, was crossing the road I was driving on and I got to see that one close. He/she? was not happy that I was close. No need to worry 'tho...I wasn't about to tease it.

Have you ever seen a fisher before? I ask because those are known to be around and Wolverines are not. They look very similar. Just asking because the first time I saw a fisher I thought it was a wolverine.
Here's a link to their range and it is not close to Minnesota.

Yes, I have seen fisher before. This was NOT a fisher. It hung around for 10 min, long enough for me to put it in the scope and give it a good look. As soon as I returned home from deer camp I pulled pics of wolverine up on my puter, DEFINITLY a wolverine.

A rare site in MN! I saw one many years ago on a grouse hunting trip to Lake Kabetogama, it had it's jaws wrapped around a Fisher's neck and wasn't about to back down from us. We backed away & just watched for awhile. I wish we had had a camera along.
This year's highlight was two timber wolfs that spent about 15 min. around the stand, my twelve year old (and his dad) enjoyed watching them. To bad we didn't get a deer, but as I explained to my son, that's all part of hunting. We also were able to watch a pine martin for a bit. No venison for the freezer, but a darn site better then sitting at home watching the boob.
Anyone want to donate some veny? It's going to be a little rough having the family sausage making weekend with no meat! (LOL)

Forgive me for getting on my soap box but this is a pet peeve of mine after looking at another hunter through my binoculars. I saw that he was looking at me THROUGH HIS SCOPE!!!

Why were you looking at it through your scope? Did you plan on shooting it? THIS IS WHAT BINOCULARS ARE MADE FOR!!!

I know I shouldn't say this but I always wanted to trap or shoot a wolverine . If I had all of whatever permits it would of taken I would of shot it and skinned it and had the hide tanned . But that is just me . They are in the same family as the MINK .

I live in central Minnesota just north east of Detroit Lakes about 35 miles. Last fall I was sitting in my truck over looking an open field with my spotting scope. I noticed an animal coming down on one of my field roads. As I zoomed in on it I realized it was a wolferene.I watched it as it crossed a gravel road and ran through a corn stubble field. When it got to the other side of the field it stopped and turned around and looked right at me. I got a up close look at it. It gave me chills the way it looked at me. When I got home I looked it up and that is what it was.

HERE ARE YOUR ANSWERS REELMAN!!!!! Forgive me for getting on my soap box but this is a pet peeve of mine after looking at another hunter through my binoculars. I saw that he was looking at me THROUGH HIS SCOPE!!! Maybe the wolverine was looking back at me through his binocs!!

Why were you looking at it through your scope? A: Because I felt like it! Did you plan on shooting it? A: MAYBE! If one of the most ferocious animals on the planet decided to charge up my tree, yes, I would have shot it!!

If you're trying to imply that because I put my scope on a animal, I also look at other hunters in my scope, YOU'RE WRONG!!

I didn't mean to imply that you would look at other hunters with your scope. Like I said after having a loaded gun pointed at me I am a little sensative to this subject.

What really bothers me is the people who use there scope to "glass" an area to see if there is any game in the area.

Sorry if I offended you, it was not my intention.

Excuse me for saying this, but are you certain it wasn't a badger? They are large and look very much like a wolverine, and are known to be in northern MN.

Well! Rather than explaining again, I'll concede, It was half fisher half badger. Really, I'm not the only person to have seen a wolverine in N. MN. although it's rare, it's not unheard of. Maybe next year i'll be lucky enough to see bigfoot, i'm keeping my fingers crossed.

SEE if you would of shot it all of this doubt would not be out there ! You would have millions in your pocket and your picture on the cover of the Rolling Stones for having shot the only half mink half fisher half badger half wolverine in MN .

Having seen pine martins, fishers, badgers & A wolverine in MN, I can tell you that there is a HUGE difference. If the man says he saw a wolverine - he saw a wolverine!! The only places I have ever seen a badger in MN were more open field / prarie areas. Never in the North woods. Not to say they aren't there, I just haven't seen them.

How would you cook the bigfoot? Would that be canibalism?

You would deep fat fry him in peanut oil of course.

while bowhunting...

Last day of bow this year,13 does/fawns and a 160 class buck 30 yards DOWNWIND of me when I was on the ground with bow - got him, thank you Scent Blocker.

About 8 years ago - Fox sniffing my boot!

Two coyotes working a stalk on the doe and fawn under my stand - they failed.

Coyote coming in slowly at me - low to the ground stalking position, when I was sitting on the ground amongst some blowdowns, I still don't know what his deal was, He must have just seen the area my headnet didn't cover and thought it was a squirrel or something - blew my arrow through him at 8 yards! He was a little surprised looking when the "tree" drew back.

Doe being chased by two bucks got stuck in the fork of a "V" in a tree when she went to jump through it, one buck mounts her from behind, the other jumps on her front end.

Are you sure it wasn't a flying squirrel? I mean, they look as much like a wolverine as a badger does. LOL!
Hang in there B-dog.
