Steve - Thank You. I said it before somewhere down in the spinner/sinker post, but feel the comment deserves greater notice.

Thank you for taking the time to answer mine and everyone else's questions with as much detail and openness as you have.

Spinner rigs are my main fishing method. I had no idea I had so much improving (and correcting) to do. I learned more this week about this type of fishing than I did all last year. I can't wait to get out on soft water and apply this new knowledge.

Again, thanks.

I just wanted to say Thanks for the information you've shared, It's helped me leap years ahead of learning on my own. A few years back I purchased your Mille Lacs fishing video and just the segment on learning to tie crawler harness's was worth the investment. Again many thanks.

I have to say that thread was refreshing. No bashing or arguements, just great information. I sincerely wish this could happen more often an this board. Thanks Steve....

Steve,

Great job as always for helping us find our way in the pursuit of happiness.
Have you ever been on the chat room as a guest speaker, if not you should be. I think it would be very informational. It is great to see a person with so much experiance share his info with fellow anglers. I have enjoyed all your post on W.C and the real plus is you have a great personality to go with it.

But remember this, we will both be competing with the strongest force in the universe this year... We will both have a woman as a partner. Heaven help us both, lol lol lol
I am now dead meat from my wife and Juls. We are actually lucky to have them as partners, Hows that for a come back. hehe

Thanks again,

Steve,

Funny thing is I can't swim either! What the #$%# did we get ourselves into?

Where can one purchase your video? Do you have any literature out there? I am always interested in learning new things.

Thanks,

Steve, Good spinner setup information. It's good to see anglers starting to share information. Can you share with those anglers what speeds you are pulling the spinners at to get them to do what you want them to do under different conditions. Out here guiding on Lake Oahe in SD, and fishing tournaments on waters across the midwest, keeping my bouncer just off the bottom with an occassional nick here and there is highly dependent upon trolling speed, bouncer weight, and surface conditions. It takes a little experimentation to get the combination just right. On many waters/resorvoirs having the wire of the bouncer dragging the bottom is desireable because of water clarity. The key here is to keep your line as vertical as possible. That means selecting the right speed and bouncer weight to do so. I can understand the reason for running the bouncer up off the bottom on Mille Lacs because the bottom foot is a soup of silty water which makes visibility difficult for fish. However, on many waters that's not the case in my experience. Whether you run the bouncer on the bottom or up a foot or two is dependent upon what works for you. The key element is speed.

I don't vary my speed EVER pulling spinners. I assume I am going about 1 mile per hour. No matter the blade size or sinker size. I have yet to see a speed indicator better than the line angle and that is what I watch. MY speed is ALWAYS so the line is at a 45 degree angle IF you are using a 2oz. weight. No way does my speed change due to bottem make up or sinker size, only my line angle changes. I see no relevance to any of these variables. I envision the sinker scaring fish ahead of the bait, and the spinner being enough of an attractant. Just remember, a Harvard study on the walleye's lateral line ( hearing ability) shows they can hear a 2 inch minnow swimming from 8 ft. a way.
Speed, bottem make up, sinker weight...all the same. You just get snagged more than me. lol I have fished your water since '83 in tournaments. I have yet to win but have several top five and many top twenty finishes, and coached to two wins, never dragging the bouncers on the bottem for any reasoning. lol

Hope to see ya out there Mike!
