Went hunting last weekend. I was sitting in my natural blind (big Blue Spruce w/ a camo chair tucked under it). Saw a deer move in around 250-300yds west of my position. Partner was on that side of the treeline, I was on the other. The deer was on his side of the trees approx 100yds to the south of him w/ a south wind. Deer went into the swamp & we both lost sight of it. Eventually came out of the swamp, he shouldered his gauge (I was too far for a gauge shot). Could barely make out that he was just sitting there snapped up in ready-fire. I was wondering why he didn't take the deer we saw. I got curious, so I slinked out from under the tree, got on my stomach & stalked down the hill in that position for about 150yds (seemed like it took a lifetime to get close enough). I was well w/in shooting range from this position, but the shot was obscured from the trees (partner was still in ready-fire). I thought to myself "if your not gonna take em, I am". I slowwwwwly rose to my knees behind a tree, shouldered my gauge, rested the barrel on a branch a prepared myself for the shot. I kept thinking "keep walking broadside towards my partner & your mine". The deer started to either detect something weird or smelled him, so I started to grunt call & rustle some grass to detract it's line of sight off him onto me. The deer started looking my way (never heard or saw me stalk up w/in 50yds of its position). Finally cleared the trees & she was about 60lbs & seemed to be thin & sickly. Partner saw me & put his gun down. When I got a clear view I was ready to take her... instead I stood up & started back up the hill I stalked down... she saw me clearly of course & simply walked away. I couldn't... wouldn't take her.
