Hey guys, I finally broke down and bought my own 7 acres in Northern Wisconsin. I took my 7 year old boy & his dog and put up and shot our first grouse on our own land! I'm 1 for 1 on grouse this year(I'm sure that % will go down fast. Even though the drumming counts were down, the numbers seem to be up.
Good job, Quit while your at 100%:-) It's the most exciting hunting there is . Nothing better than watching a good dog at work,and then having a helicopter come flying out of the brush.They taste great too.

The sex doing the drumming doesn't have to be very numerous... just amorous.

Grouse, (the I wasn't ready bird). my # 1 choice, One of the fastest birds and for sure the best eating.Nothing better than trying to shoot on the fly in the thick cover of northern Minn.

Honda guy, I hunted a couple of times north of butternut and found the birds to be down a little bit. I don't get out alot, spend most of my time fishing.

Where in Wisconsin are you. I am heading there tomorrow for 4 days to hunt grouse. Will be northwest of Wausau, near Athens. Any more info on the bird situation would be helpful. Can't wait to get there. Love Wisconsin. Thanks

I live in central WI (wood co.) and the grouse around here are down. Athens is about an hour north of here, so I can't help you. I also have a trailer on 8 acres up by Butternut lake just north of Park Falls(Price co.) and I do a little hunting up there. good luck

The Chequamegon National Forest, West of Phillips. This weekend we put up 10 in about 2 1/2 hours. For the weather we had thats not too bad.
