November 10th is almost here. Those Walker hounds of mine are getting itchy to put some coon in the freezer. Anybody else here hunt coon besides me???

I can't believe I'm the only Red-neck coon huntin' fool here.

There are a lot of us rednecks here, but I figure most would rather chase birds with a shotgun and coons with a pickup.}(

Possum Punting, I'm to slow to catch the coons. Once they play dead it's time to find the car with unlocked doors in front of the local tavern, have a couple beverages and watch the excitement.

Trophy-
I used to go coon hunting with my dad all the time. We actually rode mules while hunting. I was only in grade school, but I still remember how fun it was to hear the hounds yelping. I remember a few nights bringing home a pile of coons. We would haul the mules to the area and start riding and following the hounds where ever they took us.
Here is a story for ya.. I was not there (thank the lord), but my dad and uncle came upon this old abandoned house (gold mine for coon).. They entered only to find out that it was used for some kind of cult ritual. There was a sawed off pig head with a candle sticking out of the skull on the old coffee table, bones hanging on the wall, Writing on the wall (blood) that said "Die" "DEAD MAN" etc..., freaky candles, and satanic stuff all around!
Dad said he was seriously freaked out...as he should have been :)
I wish I could get back into that again. I just worry about what my neighbors would say (in town) if I brought a walker home.
NOTE: The gae warden was fully aware of the mule thing and tried to tell us we could not use them.. Well, the book said hunters must be on foot while hunting coons...well, mules don't have tires now do they.

Here in Ohio people are just about begging guys to kill coon. These are the "good ole times" for coon huntin'. it's the best it's ever been.

Hi Trophy,
Used to hunt Coon and loved it but had to give it up due to Asbestios.Used to hunt over on Kelleys Island.A lot of Coon and they are prime hides right now.Used to camp at the State Park.It was closed but they let use stay there anyway with no charge. The people over there hated the coon because they ate all the pheasant eggs.I imagine the deer are really thick over there now.Well it looks like a lot of the leaves are off now so you can see the coon better. We used to fish for Perch off the dock during the day and hunt at night. You can probley get a good night bite for walleyes right now too.Well have a good Hunting Season.
May I be fishing somewhere Tomorrow

Thanks for the good wishes. It's Tuesday at 8:10pm. Only 3 hours, and 50 minutes to go. Right now I'm wound tighter than a banjo string.

Hi Marcbodi. I hope you had a pleasant holiday season. So far the coon season has been a rollercoaster for me. The first couple of nights the tracks were good, but then for the next 2 weeks we just couldn't find a chase hardly. Thank goodness things started to pick up around Thanksgiving and when the weather is good, we have been killing a few. I'm hunting a 2 year old male Walker I raised from a 6 week old pup. He's double line Nocturnal Nailor, and House's Lipper. He's got set of papers that a breeder would slobber over. We all know that papers don't tree coon, but they do sell pups if you campaign the dog. Last year in his first kill season I killed 48 coon to him solo. This year I've dropped 59 out to him so far, and the best hunting is just starting. The breeding season is my favorite time anyway. It takes a real good hound to kill coon then just because the boar coon will tap so many trees looking for hot sows. I also have a 1 year old female who is out of Rock River Sackett Jr. bloodline on the bottom, and Lipper on top. She just started treeing her own coon in the last 2 weeks, and man does she get on the wood. You won't hear another dog at the tree unless she shuts up. While I'm writting this reply, I'm killing a little time to let the coon get down, and move a bit before I turn em' loose. Let me know if you would like to come along some night. It would be my priveledge to have you go on a hunt with me. I promise no off game chases. That's one thing that I will not tolerate. Think it over and if want to set up a hunt let me know. You can take the man away from the hounds, but you'll never take the love of the hounds out of the man.
May your coon always be on the outside

Tonite I made 1 dump, treed 1 coon, and called it quits when it started pouring rain. I drove the truck home 9 miles with the drivers side window down because it's so warm out. It's like hunting in the summer training young dogs tonight.

Saturday Night results. 15 degrees F. winds from the northwest at 5-10 m.p.h.. 5 dumps with Chippydoo, 2 coon dead, 2 chases ending at den trees, 1 ended at a hole in the ground. One of the chases that resulted in a kill lasted an hour in a standing corn field. Thats what makes coon hunting during mating season fun. The chases are usually long ones that takes a solid dog to figure out.

72 coon to Chip this year. Good year overall. Chip was solid, and Abby is getting it all together. I should be dog rich for many years provided nothing bad happens to the hounds, or myself. Now that the coon season is over, it could turn 75 degrees tommorrow from now on until summer gets here :)
