Heading over to Iowa for he opener. Really looking forward to it!!

I was heading back home for a visit this past weekend. We were driving from Indiana to Iowa. We stopped at Rest Stop near
Bloomington, Il. I let my short-hair out for a walk and he bounded into some switch grass near the back of the rest stop. I watched him go on point and I flushed a covey of Quail.

Then on the return trip to Indiana we stopped at the same rest area on the other side of the road. I let the dog out. He went on point and I flushed 2 roosters. We walked a little more and he pointed another rooster and a hen.

That was a blast.

There is nothing like having your dog go on point, walk in on a rooster and to have him cackle and explode out the golden switch grass.

Ah yes...let the crowds begin. Populations down here a little this year, but should still be good hunting. Plenty of corn still out there in our NW corner, which always bodes well for those of us who like to watch the pointers run clear through the holidays. Good luck!

Good luck to you to.

Even though I moved from Cedar Rapids and now live in Indiana, I'm not going to consider my-self one of those " Out-of State" people.

Is this heavan? No this is Iowa!

If you were out, how did you do?

Saturday morning was as windy a day I have ever hunted in. If you got your bird to bank into the wind for a second or two you had a chance. If not, they caught the wind and were out like a rocket.

The afternoon was much better and 3 of us got our limit. We saw and missed 4 times as many Roosters as we shot.

Dogs did great.

I love Iowa!

We hunt around the Gilmore City area and we had to much corn to contend with. We managed a few limits and had a great time. That wind was tough and we had a little rain Saturday morning. It's hard to make a good shot when your glasses are covered with rain spots. I don't miss the phesant opener or the IA Great Lakes walleye opener for anything. A girlfriend tried to make miss one of those days once. I dumped her and left and never thought twice about it. I figure that's not to much to ask.
