View Full Version : How many "company" guys on this site?

Mike Michalak

I visit, about 25 times a day, and read the good and bad about products on WC. I always learn something because we're included in the mix from time-to-time. That's a good thing. I've been fortunate enough to host a couple chats and see some others, but are they regulars?

My question is...how many companies are represented here on Walleye Central? I know Ted Takasaki drops in from Lindy. Dick from Genetron is taking his lumps lately. Who else can speak for their company and regularly frequent these message boards? I'd be curious because I've tried this on other boards and usually don't find that many. To me, it's another valuable way to get one-on-one with anglers.

Seriously, if you manage, own, represent, whatever, a company in the fishing industry, I'd like to know who's out there. Thanks in advance!

Hello, this is Matt Phelps from Phelps Tackle Company. The creators of the original Phelps Floater and the first stand up jig.The "Half Face" jig. I usually check this site for info, feedback, and general knowledge. I am on at least once per day sometimes twice just to see what people are talking about. This is a great site and the people are terrific. Of course I say that because nobody has bashed me, yet. As a matter of fact, three years ago my brother and his wife had a very premature premie baby and I asked for other prayers. It was unbelievable how many of you wished our family good luck. She will be three on May 16 and is doing great. Sorry to ramble on.
Remember, It Helps to Use Phelps! Watch for one of our new floaters in the next Cabela's catalog.

Matt Phelps do you have a web page where a person can look at your selection of tackle you handle?

Greg,

Last time I was at Galyans, I noticed they had discontinued mushroom head jigs (Gopher Tackle). Is this a permanent thing? Just curious. Thank you.

Mike,
Jim Stedke here. I respond to any postings that envolve my sponsors, (so long as they are not cotroversial) and I have a web page under the LEMTA's Boatohio site, forums section, "ask the expert". I answer general fishing questions and Lake Erie questions.

I stay away from negatism, and often include the fact that the item being discussed is one of my sponsors. I guess that makes me a company guy (or at least I hope my sponsors see it that way).

I hope your trip goes well. Tight lines.

I'm Bob Yount and I guess that I could be considered a company guy. I work for Dick's Sporting Goods, in Akron, OH. I handle a lot of the products mentioned on this board and respond to post when I think I can help. Or give info that may or may not be wanted. Just try to be helpful as I am at the store.

I'm the general manager of Fish-Itt First Lures, formerly a Colorado company. We're now located in Pentwater, MI where we make a crankbait called the Pop-Eyed Rattler and a die cast spoon called the Double Dancer. The Dancer was in the In-Fisherman's Walleye Guide 2001 and 2002. The Rattler, also a great walleye lure, is now in Cabela's new fishing catalog. I come to this site every week because it helps me in my marketing and design efforts and keeps me up to date with the latest in walleye news.

Hey Matt. Jorgenson here. Reading between the lines it seems you want some bashing for Phelps Tackle. I'll try to help you out--I can usually rile your old man up pretty easy as you know. I still try to convince Denny other lines of tackle are a better investment because you can keep the other stuff so much longer. That darn Phelps stuff--put it on and pretty soon a fish has it!! Really I'm glad to see you posting. The Phelps clan has a lot of fish knowledge. Catch you at the 71 one of these eves.

The website has a secure order page but you can get the spoons at Cabela's Dundee. The Eyes Have It shop in Leroy, MI, Some Gander Mtn stores. Hope to be in Franks in Linwood, MI soon. There are too many shops to list here but I am working on a dealers page for the website. We're big in the Northwest and Alaska, Japan , Germany, England. If your local shop doesn't have our stuff go to the website. Thanks, Barry

Hiya, Mike. (Great name.) I'm Mike Alley--Sr. Copywriter from Bass Pro Shops. As the only true "walleye guy" in this office (or so it seems), I try to check out WC whenever possible. It's mostly for my own benefit, but I'll do my best to help someone out when a Bass Pro question comes up. I also pass on product-related info from here (comments and feedback) to the merchandisers sometimes, to help them be more responsive to the walleye world. Love this site, but it seems there are too many peaks in the workload to get here on a regular basis! :o Lots of good, savvy folks hangin' here--I've learned a lot.
