Try hunitng them in the fields. We ussually do quite well on Mallards and some Woodies(early) in cut corn fields when we are goose hunting. I generally put some full body mallard decoys in the "pocket" of my goose decoys and they come right in.

can you explain how to set up for the field ducks? when i'm goose hunting around the appleton area, i see tons of ducks but they want nothing to do with landing by me!

I know my buddy shoots some geese and ducks on the smaller streams, where they get a bit wider. This is in western WI, almost to MN. There must be plenty of public areas that have some small enough sloughs that waders would do the trick - at least for the first few weeks until the woodies and teal are gone.

Good luck!

Sorry about taking so long to respond - I forgot that WC had a hunting forum.

I set out my standard "J" formation of goose decoys and then in the middle I put a dozen or so full body Mallard decoys. The ducks really like a spinning wing decoy but it seems to scare the geese so I keep the spinner close to my layout blind so when geese are coming I can take it down. Most of the ducks we shoot in fields are not landing. they are mainly buzzing the decoys so if they are close enough shoot, don't wait for them to try landing.
