Simply put, what is the best planer board out there or our we comparing apples to oranges. I've used the Offshore and have been happy but they are also more expensive. Trolling cranks (shadraps) is what they will be used for. Is the cheaper route worth it?

Second, do any of you use heavier spin tackle for your planer boards or do you stick with the baitcaster?

thanks ahead of time........romertrain

I use a level wind line counter trolling reel with a bait clicker for my boards. And a stout rod. I set the line, put the board in the water click on the bait clicker, put the rod in the holder and let it pay out while I am setting another line. When it reaches the desired location, I lock the reel, switch off the bait clicker. If you want to let oput more line, just release the line and pay som more out. You dont even have to take the rod out of the holder if you dont want to. Works real good this way. I have tried a few cheaper boards, but always go back to my offshores.

Off-shore planner boards are the best by far. As for tackle, I never use spinning tackle becuase 1) They don't have a line counter and 2) You cant let them out on any line tension, you have to let them out on freespool. and for rods, you don't want stout, you want something with a lot of tip flex but with backbone. good luck!

Off Shore are the best for my money. Use a good level wind reel so you know how much line you have out. 7 1/2 or 8 foot trolling rods will top the whole thing off.
Let's get that ice melted. It's time to fish!!!

Remember to put the clicker back on before you open the release or you might have a problem with backlash.

Off Shore no doubt. Have tried the rest but will stick to the best. For an extra $8 it isnt worth the trouble since they last many years.

I dont know anyone who fishes often who uses spinning gear with boards. They just are not heavy enough to handle this work.

I sell different kinds of in-line boards in the shop, and the Off Shore is the most popular one. many of the other board buyers come back in and get the off shore boards. like anything, there are always ways that people modify , and change things around, but like i said the off shore is the most asked for. i use the off shore myself. i hope this helps. good luck and good fishin.

I would also have to recommend the off-shore boards. Easy to use and even easier know that they have developed the releases that can be used with superlines.

My vote goes for the Off Shore Boards as well. Make sure to upgrade the clips. Get the Red One-OR16's. They are heavier tension. If you are going to troll using superlines, I believe they have clips available--the snapper? Not sure-I troll with mono. Avoid using spinning gear. If you can, invest in a couple line counter reels and some trolling rods. I use Diawa SL27's. The rods are pretty inexpensive--I use Gander Guide Series 8'6" and the Bass Pro P/K in the same length. Also, if you plan on trolling, invest in the Troller's Bible--Precision Trolling. It should be available on Walleye Central. Hope this helps.

The new clip is the OR 18, or as you said, it is called the
" snapper". if you use a super braid line it is the best clip. good luck and good fishin.

Off-Shore is by far the best board on the market. The best thing about them is they run true even in big waves. I also like the Tattle Tale flag. The lights you can mount on the flags for night fishing seem to alter the true path they usually take, but not enough to cause major problems.
There are many styles of releases available for any style of fishing that you would do. You just can't go wrong with these boards.

I would also vote for the off shores. I really like the tattle tail system, but I would upgrade the clips to Mr. Walleye clips and go and buy a C-73 spring to use, this to me is the best set up.
