Just got back from an action packed 10 day hunt.
we started out in Peirre for sharptails then moved north east to
Dick Stillie(Sp) Rooster Run Lodge to hunt pheasants.
What a HOOT! This was one of the best hunts I have had in a while.
Dick and his crew from Wis. where great. What a blast B.S. with them.
If you guy's are looking for a Good "Wild bird" hunt look Dick up.
You will not be sorry.

Just wondering how everybody elses hunt went?

I would have taken some photo's of the dogs But they where a bloody mess from all the cattails. This hunt was not a walk in the park.
I'm nursing my dogs back and it looks like they are ready to go again. I have a hunt planned next week to hunt wild chucker in Ut. I have never hunted wild chuckers before ...only planned ones.

I'll get some photo of the dogs then and post. I'm sure the lay of the land will not be soo hard on them.

LOL...Sho-Nuff T! Good eye.

Ok, D...I'll wait for the pretty dog pictures, but the bloody mess ones are the ones I wanted to see. They EARN those scars, and look so proud even when they are all messed up. ;)

We were out there for the opening 5 days. Hunted around Gettysburg. Not as many birds as last year but still a great hunt. Our dogs held up pretty good. You would laugh if you could see them right now, both asleep, one on the bed and the other on the couch. Will be going to Kansas hunting quail and pheasants on the 9th.

Just returned from south-central SD, East of the river, South of the Interstate, with my 14 yr old springer. I'm slowing down faster than she is. They are in the umpteenth year of drought in this area. Virtually no potholes, sloughs or dugouts have water and bird pop. is definitely down from last year. As always, SD farmers leave stripped corn up until late which made hunting extra hard for 2 guys/1 dog. I've seen more and larger bunches of birds in sw MN.

Up here in north central SD, the bird population is the lowest I've seen in 20 years. We had a fair hatch, but the heat and drouth killed 99% of the young. The vast majority of the birds being taken, are at least a year old. God help us if we have a bad winter. Most of the cover has been cut for hay. (even the sloughs). If there were tumble weeds on the moon, it would look just like it does here.
