Do most pheasant hunters hang it up when we get the snow and cold? I had to get out today to see what this 6-10" inches of snow does to the birds. Found them in the cattails - could have shot a dozen - on public land. It is tough - my 10 year old lab gets pretty lame after getting home. But it's so much fun and she loves it. Never saw another hunter - maybe I'm crazy out in this weather. Next week it will be cold, but when you sign up for late season in ND as a non-resident, you have to take what you get.

Saturday we shot our limit of 33 birds in 2 hours. Cattails were absolutely full of birds, we guesstimated over 1000 birds coming out of one slough. Woke up in the morning with a trace of snow and 13 degrees. Finished the day with over 6" of snow and 19 degrees. Cold and wet but well worth it.

Hi Mike,
Any advice for someone who would like to go wild pheasant hunting in SD for the first time. I have been hunting pheasants for over 30 yrs in Illinois but would like to get out at least once with my father to SD. We would need lodging and meals but bring our own dog. Not looking for anything special, just a clean place to stay and they either provide meals or close to town where we could get some food. I would really appreciate your advice and this would be for next year. Probably would be looking at the first week of Novemeber.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hey Mike,
Sounds like the hunting hasn't slowed down much...I think I will be making a couple trips out there next season. The late season is something I would like to try. See you next year!
Wingmann, I made my first trip to South Dakota this year and Mike set up our hunt for us...it was a great time. You and your Dad will have a blast.

Hey Mike D,
I've been to the Dakota's several times for pheasants but not in the last couple years. I'd like to bring my wife out next year, along with our GSP. I'd like my wife to experience some real bird hunting. Do you run a bird hunting operation out there and if so, can I contact you for details?
Thanks,
Paul

Yes they do...the fair weather hunters! It only gets better later in the season for me, way less hunters and the birds are bunched up.
