This Friday I am taking my 2 new ( 6-months) G.S.P. puppies to a hunting preserve to work them on live birds. It's been about 10 years since I trained puppies on live birds.

I have been working on comands, wing in the yard, fetching a throw dummy ( with feathers ) shooting a blank gun when they get the dummy etc.

Any advice for the 1st time out with live birds? My plan was to let them find a couple, then to shoot the blank gun and then to shoot the shot gun when I felt they were comfortable.

My over all game plan is to go slow. I have a 2 dog e-collar and will use it when needed.

If they haven't been exposed to live birds, you may want to use a check cord to hold them on point and teach whoa if you choose to. The last thing you want is for the dogs to break point and catch the birds.

Thanks. They have been pretty aggressive on the wing. I have been getting good points but they are all puppy.

Training 2 dogs at once is new for me. I have always been able to train a new pup with an older experienced dog.
