Just wondering what others use to water dogs during some of the longer hunts early in the season when it's still hot. I've just been carrying a water bottle or two, but with some of the camelbak stuff that's out there, I think I may change that.

I'm starting to use the Gatoraid for dogs stuff (can't remember the name) that you add to thier water. I also have "top dog power pack" it's beef chunks with "k-9 energy source" I will be trying these out this week end. I have a Viszla that gets into the zone so bad he doesn't want to drink in the field, I have to force him to drink so I thought this might help some.

I have one of the camelback types that a friend gave me...many years ago when I used to jog.

I still do the water bottle thing, seems easier that in/out of the backpack device.

I suppose if I was going on a LONG trek - then I might consider the pack.... other wise the water bottle concepts seem easier.

I use a couple water bottles, simple and works.

Depends on the dog.
If you have a big lab and it is warm out you had better hunt near water sources because you cannot humanly pack enough water for their needs and yours as well.

I used to carry a zip top freezer bag and pour water into the bag to allow the dogs to hydrate. Makes the most use of whatever water you carry. We used canteens to carry water. It was before the advent of the camelback products.
